Thumbs down The 9 New vehicles that owners dump the quickest

Here's an interesting video of which new vehicles the owners dump within the first year. It is significant, IMO, that most of them are European-brand vehicles....several of them being upmarket ones.

People who can afford higher end cars are less likely to keep them/more easily able to move to other stuff when they get bored. Leasing is also much more common at the higher end since it maximizes the car you can afford

Typical lease-contracts, though, are for two to four years. Getting out of them early, after only one year or so, usually involves a big penalty.

I see all over the car forums that people have no problem taking a $10k+ loss on a trade so they can have the latest and greatest. I'm not built that way to understand why they do it. A lot of times it's people who didn't do their research and sometimes as silly as because they don't like the interior color anymore.

Bingo. It's very common at that level because it's just 10k after all

Sure. In a nutshell, it consists of the Nissan Sentra, the Mini Clubman, and most of the rest of them upmarket European vehicles from BMW, Mercedes, and Jaguar. On the average, about 10% of their owners replace them within the first year, for various reasons.

Had a coworker who for the last 14 years has had a new car every year. Her car debt is well over $100K, which is more than her salary. Some people truly believe that greenbacks need to be treated like Monopoly money!

Agreed this is likely because the owners of these upmarket european cars often trade very early.

The video also has to assume that these owners trade for a different vehicle. I knew a woman once (now deceased) who would get a new Cadillac DeVille every year. For some 47 years, she would order one every August, like clockwork, at Lindsay Cadillac in Alexandria, when the new ones came out, usually in the latest new color, and pick it up a few weeks later. As a retired Army General, she had the cash for it....plus, the dealership knew they could count on her every fall, and sometimes used her name in advertising, so they gave her super-good deals.

I dumped my 22’ SL63 AMG in three months, 1900 miles, took a 50k hit, but it’s ok, I hate that car.

Can you elaborate a little? What did you hate about it that you took such a big financial hit?

You've got to hate it a LOT to take that kind of a hit....or have a lot of $$$$$ in the bank.

Lol I don’t have money, but the car is just not up to my expectations after owning 5 Porsches, including 3 911s.

the test drive was fine, thats why I bought it just for a change of brand after owning 5 P cars.
But the more I drove it, the more I hate it. The fit and finish is not as good, cheap plastic used on lower areas, the engine sound is fine but at higher rpm is too mute. Suspension is pure nightmare, no matter in what mode, I drove it in race and that doesn’t inspire confidence.
The worst part is the transmission, I never know what gear it would jump to.
At 500 miles, the rear spoiler already starting to acting up.
Judging from the trade in value, it says a lot of the car, Porsche didn’t even want my SL, I had to sell it back to my dealer.

Now im in a Boxster 25th

anniversary, couldn’t be happier since its 6 speed manual and 4.0 non turbo. Think I will keep it while waiting for something else exciting to come.
