Are Buicks For Old People? POLL
I'm like you in that I've always liked cars that some wouldn't deem "age-appropriate." As a child and all throughout my teen years, my favorite cars were S-Classes, 7-Series, Audi A8s, etc. I've never cared about them "being for old people." My partner and I probably look a little silly to others when we're in our Mercedes EQS as most people probably expect to see someone 55+ driving it, but I don't care at all, I like what I like
I agree with this. You should see some of the contestants on The Golden Bachelor. Wow they make 70 look like the new 45!

Thank you, signdetres. Great Post.

First, like I said earlier, I also liked the Lexus UX...and still do, although it is a little small inside for my size. Second, I don't care about image, buyer-ages, TV ads, or anything else along those lines. I am objective when I look at vehicles, and go for what I personally like and need. Third, Lincoln, IMO, deserves some buyer-interest. The company has e gone a LONG way towards making them a LOT different today than simply the rebadged Fords they were some years ago. Today, a Lincoln is a true luxury-grade product inside and out, although they have had some teething problems with their recent SUVs.
Lincoln has a long way to go before I'd say they deserve more buyer-interest. One generation of upscale products is good to see but that doesn't mean they're going to get to shed their past reputation just as quickly. That's just not the way the world works. Further, while their products do look nice, they still don't offer a compelling reason for people to choose them over the competition.
It all depends on what context you're looking at this from. From a quality of life standpoint, yeah I agree there's still tons to do in your 50s. From a car buying perspective...people 55+ are still not buying cars with the frequency most manufacturers prefer. Alarm bells go off for many manufacturers when they see their median age start creeping up towards that age.
The UX's median age is 56, which is actually higher than others in the segment. Lexus was originally targeting people around the age of 35. It's great that you don't care about image of cars, but like I said it's interesting you ended up going for cars that generally appeal to your age bracket anyways.

The Lexus UX surprised me when I drove it....a hybrid F-Sport version. I didn't think a lot of the interior, but its road manners were very well-done for a vehicle that size...and the ride was very comfortable despite the F-Sport orientation. It was somewhat pricey, though, for a subcompact vehicle its size...Buicks offer much better value for the money.

Comparing most Lincoln interiors to most Cadillac interiors today (their closet competitors) IMO Lincoln uses far more durable materials inside, are built more solidly inside, and have more of a quality-feel, although Cadillac DID do a excellent job on the latest Escalade.
Both companies, though, need to work more on reliability, although both have also shown some promising signs.

The fact you bring up the UX and NX at all is excellent proof of just how behind they are, those cars are literally a joke among real luxury car owners.

Incorrect. IMO, there's nothing about the UX that is a joke......except maybe for interior space. Other than that, for an entry-level vehicle, it is quite impressive. The old NX was a joke in several areas........not so the new one, which is light-years better.
The Buick is a lower budget option and if done well, could be a big seller
I was actually impressed with a Buick Suv, it was the bigger one and want to say the Enclave.
Interior was very nice.
Sporty, not at all, by no means.
More like a laid back cruiser.
I think germany and japan make the best cars.

Interesting. There are a number of Enclaves in my neighborhood ... but mostly as family vehicles for Gen X'ers.
Depends on the components involved. Buick engines and transmissions, in general, are the same as in other GM products....so there won't be much difference there. But the quality of assembly in Buicks, in general, seems to be better than those of the other divisions....even though they are often done on the same assembly lines. That one is a little harder to figure out.

Not only with Buicks, but with most vehicles, period, many older folks think that the larger the vehicle, and the more mass you have around you, the safer you are. That goes back to what they have been told, for years, in the Defensive-Driving schools by the Instructors: all else equal, size=safety. Often that is true, but, of course, not always.
