​​​​​ There are performance hybrid/PHEV'S, but the compromise is high price and fuel economy. With a BEV, the compromise is long range and in some places, charging. I foresee that being overcome in about 5 years

 

In my observation range anxiety is something overwhelmingly expressed by people that don't own an electric vehicle.

 

I can tell you it’s the most common hangup, may very well be that once I have an EV I wouldn’t worry about it but it does concern me

 

"roadtrip" is a broad term. it sounds like you do very long road trips. i've done 2 weekend getaways to 'get my feet wet' about the public charging experience and it's been completely positive. granted i'm doing a 1000 mile road trip and i have absolutely NO interest in doing that in ANY car.

again it's not hours with the right car and charger. i spent less than an hour total round trip charging on my recent weekend getaways. the first getaway was 13 minutes charging one way and about 20 the other way, and the longer second getaway was 19 minutes charging one way and about 10 minutes the other way. (the difference on charging before coming back was due to driving at the getaway location). does it take a bit of planning because chargers are not as plentiful as gas stations? of course, but it's no big deal. there's lots of things i don't do without some planning or research.

you seem pretty obsessed about using your phev in electric mode as much as possible. i'm guessing that takes a bit of planning with such tiny battery.

understood, but it doesn't have to be a big compromise.

guessing you forgot to look at the battery state of charge when heading out? i don't leave the house without knowing my state of charge. for a day i know i'm only going to office and back, 50% is plenty. if i think i might be doing other calls i'll generally start with 80.

Yeah over 400 miles one way I’m not driving on a trip. So, I’m looking at one stop probably for 35 minutes or so, that’s a far cry from “6 hours charging”. If I felt confident that I could make that one stop in a stress free way I wouldn’t worry about it.

 

Why not just have one good ICE vehicle and one good EV. Solved!!!

For me that doesn’t work because I need to be able to travel in both cars. So, even if I were to have both I’m still going to be traveling in the EV

I have five cars parked in my back yard area parking (Sienna, Polestar, Ioniq 5, Model Y, and Chevy bolt), but I wouldn't recommend it 🤣🤣

I had to park on the street when I was old enough to drive.

My dad didn't like it at all but I'm just glad I was allowed to still live at home.

"Sorry son, nowhere to park, you'll have to move out". Haha

 

I once owned a battery lawn mower. My wife would say it’s taking me longer to mow the grass. I had to strategize how to mow my yard on 1 charge. I definitely had range anxiety. I had to sacrifice using the self propel feature and I had to mow often and not in the morning when the grass was still wet. I loved that mower. Quiet and lightweight but it didn’t work for me. Retuned it on the final day of the return period.

My friend who recommended the mower to me had to replace his battery after 3-4 years at the cost of a gas mower.

 

I can safely tell you my friend, an EV is not an electric lawn mower. That said, I have an electric blower, and it works great. I wouldn't use one if I was a gardener though
