I also don't get the hate either, but it is what it is. I don't believe for a moment he's an Oracle and is working from some divine plan, but his accomplishments prove to me that he's forward thinking. Extremely forward thinking.
Elon has the most ambitious business plans of anyone in history it's not close. Solve autonomy, fix previously unfixable medical issues. Go to Mars. My observation is the most harsh critics of Elon or any business leaders are people that have never created anything themselves. As they say it's easy to heckle from the bleachers it is a whole other thing to be the man in the ring.
Tesla still needs "raw" sales to fund his initiatives, unless he's funding from his own pocket, which I doubt
100%. Luckily for lack of a better word Tesla is swimming in cash which is remarkable considering their R&D spending. This year Tesla will spend $10 billion on AI infrastructure which currently has near zero revenue. All other EV makers can't turn a profit and they don't spend anything on compute or robotics.

The last part is what floors me. Tesla spends billions on factories, R&D, battery development, AI etc and still turns a healthy profit. Tax incentives certainly help them, but I think Tesla as a company would survive easily without them

Imagine the upside if (when IMO) Tesla's AI projects start to literally pay off. Speaking of battery development rumour is Tesla has solved dry cathode and electrode for the 4680's. On another note there have been some Y's and 3's driving around with Starlink mini stuck to the top glass we could see every Tesla in the future with satellite connectivity.
Also Grok will likely at some point be part the UI.
...oh and Tesla is building a Megapack factory in China the highest margin part of their business.
He's talking Federal. And if it were true that they don't rely on subsidies then why tweak pricing in the manner they have? The M3P is tweaked to be a hair under 55K, the Model X saw tweaks as recently as this week to stay under the 80K cap through some price manipulation. You have to remember that Tesla still gets the MSRP for the car as its revenue, even if the customer pays less because of credits. If what you say were true it would be in Tesla's best interests to sell for as high an MSRP as the market could support yet we're seeing them behave differently - because of the credits.
here we go again. OF COURSE tesla is going to react and adjust to market conditions, and OF COURSE they're selling for as high an MSRP as they think they can (with and without credits depending on the model/config) to move as many cars as possible.
musk saying he's ok with no credits is not inconsistent with musk/tesla taking advantage of credits while they exist, and it's not hypocrisy.
His businesses, in general, absolutely do rely on subsidies. SpaceX in particular, but Tesla too through incentives on cars, solar, carbon credits and more. The argument that they still saw sales rise during the period after they lost the initial EV credit with the 200,000 unit cap has merit but it glosses over the fact that the competition back then was weak. Competition now is much stronger. And it also goes without saying that period was before he went crazy/dropped the pretence and revealed his real personality to all and sundry (choose the option you like best). Again, people like to suggest he's playing some kind of 4D chess that us lesser mortals can't possibly understand, but it's much more straightforward than that. The reality is he's just a rich douche looking out for himself and other rich douches. But mostly himself. And certainly not his shareholders.
Nothing against you as I don't know you or have ever met you, however I think your very plain dislike/zero respect of Elon's accomplishments and summarizing him as just a rich douche bag has to be very, very personal. I just don't get it honestly. Maybe I'm too stupid to see what you're seeing.

And conversely, I don't get the fawning sycophancy or the willingness to overlook the terrible things he does.
Just like the latest Model X deal, Model 3 Performance now gets paint upgrades for free with FSD, still preserving the tax credit.
I think they should also consider offering a lease buyout option on the M3P along with a credit passthrough for buyers who fail the income tests and wouldn't otherwise get the credit. Under that model Tesla (who get the 7.5K on a lease) put it into the deal and buyers could then buy out the lease, getting the effective benefit of the credit. Making it M3P only pushes the highest priced Model 3 and incentivizes customers who earn over the cap, and there are ton here in Tesla's biggest market, to buy.

Nice; Stealth Grey is Std, Red is $2K and the other colors are $1K. I would have picked white, like our 1st Model 3, but I don't care for the black/white look.
The Grey is best, IMO. But for those who qualify for the tax credit, this might be a nice perk, aka come-on! Ha!
Or for anyone who wants another color.

I would think an owner would get there money back when trading in.
Most of what I see driving around are white Teslas.

Originally black was the standard color; we paid $1,000 or $1,500 when we bought our white 2018 Mid Range in Dec 2018.
Sometime after, white became the standard color and stayed that way until sometime last year, I believe.
So yeah, there's a ton of white Model 3s out there. I came to love this car...
