That's too bright and distracting. You want some lighting on the side but not too much. If you put too much light on the side, that's where your eyes will be drawn to. Turning on your fog lights will draw your eyes down from the road. The HID pattern on your LS is probably the best representation of good lighting without being overly sophisticated as with the stuff we have today on the S class digital lighting. When my other mid 2000s car was new that was equipped with HIDs, they were undefeated. The lighting was absolutely superior. Go figure, its because of this that many people modify their headlights with cheap aftermarket stuff.
My LS absolutely floods the road and sides of the road beyond what any of my other cars do.....I like it because it's the one that has the broadest and longest range pattern that is closest to daylight. The Audis don't project as far or as much to the sides in stock form, you can code them to use all the LED arrays at once and to activate the matrix system but stock for stock the LS has more output
I want to see as much as I can at night. Just because something is out of my field of vision, or out of the lighting provided by my headlights, does not mean it cannot or will not become a threat. The sooner that I see and identify a potential threat, the better prepared I am to handle it.
I think the best part of all is Auto Highbeam. I was reluctant to use but it actually works wonder. My light is good but high beam certainly helps when you're out on an empty dark road at night.

What lights are they?
He has a matrix lighting system on his car, real time 50+ zones with brightness control tired into the front sensors that will auto dim around other cars and also flash lights when threats are detected by strobing the light on the threat.

Germans came out with this stuff about 10 years back

Cadillac used to offer military-style night-infrared vision, which was quite effective in picking up humans and warm-blooded animals at night. Why more automakers did not adopt it (even considering cost) beats me...I thought it was an excellent safety feature.
You code it in, German cars allow you to do whatever you want if the hardware supports it.
On mine I have it set to allow fogs and highs at the same time and to pulse the brake lights if I brake hard. I also adjusted the massage runtime and heated wheel temp etc.....
You can alter unlock behavior to be very custom, relock behavior etc etc, options are nearly endless on these as long as you know what you want so any euro or other region features that are locked out here for whatever reason can be re-enabled

I still think the ls460 hids are best. You can’t beat the color and smoothness of the pattern and the performance and the simplicity
yes the digital light on the s class are good but it’s overly sophisticated just for driving. The sensors and electronics is just too much. Night time driving isn’t that sophisticated. Highbeams addresses all your problems on the backroads and a lot of light isn’t needed in the suburb streets which is already lighted

Someone will sue because the warning was not in their language. Also you might be looking up but then look down to read and walk in front of the car. Seems like a terrible idea.

You've never driven a car with these lights...so how can you make a statement like that?
Having had both systems...you are not correct.
Nobody will say having more light at night is a bad thing.
Here's a video that shows how they work. You can see the light moving around in the turns, and how it isolates an oncoming or vehicle ahead without dropping the high beams entirely
