Default 99 GS400 Cd009a 6Speed Swap

Hello,

Kind of a bucket list item for me, this is my 3rd 2nd gen Gs and 2nd GS400 I always felt like this car needed a manual to be a legit sports sedan.

My first GS400 had full bolt-ons, AFC neo, headers, intake, exhaust, torque converter, wheels, suspension, supra brakes, etc... it was nice but the automatic was really holding the car back.

I decided to do a write-up as it was really hard to find information on this swap specifically for a GS400 with the CD009 6 speed. A majority of the information I found was all on SC300/400 and GS300 and all were really lacking in details.

I used Collin's 6-speed swap kit, a decent kit for the price. Had a few issues along the way but Brendon the owner was very responsive and willing to make sure everything worked out.

https://collinsadapters.com/swap-kit...-swap-kit.html

If I were to do this again I would pay a bit more and get the Fishracing 6-speed swap kit,

I went with the steel driveshaft to help reduce vibrations as it was now a 1 piece vs 2 like the OEM

I also purchased a brand new 370z 6-speed CD009A transmission from them as well, which worked out great as they will cust the Nissan bell housing off and will install the necessary hardware to the new transmission to make the installation very plug-and-play. You will have to hammer our the transmission tunnel to make the transmission fit, this was one of the worst parts of this install.

Went with a SPEC Clutch Disk Stage 1 - Nissan SR20DET-S15 2.0L turbo instead of what was included in the kit as I wanted a reputable brand with a full-face streetable clutch.

For the shifter, I went with the CD999 Technical Shifter as from what I've heard and read the ones included in the Collins kit is not the greatest.

https://www.serialnine.com/product-p...ter-relocation

The CD999 Shifter is a bit pricey but it is very high quality and offers great adjustability which was a huge plus for the shifter location. The shifter feels great, it clicks into gears. I had an AP2 S2000 before and for shifter feel this is pretty close.

Huge plus you get to keep the cup holder with this shifter. Other shifters force you to cut out the cup holders.

To make the reverse lights engage you will cut and wire in a 350z reverse switch in place of the stock reverse switch, easy to do as it's just 2 wires.

I upgraded the engine mounts to Megan engine mounts as this helped greatly with shifting and overall better driving feel.

For the brake pedal, I went with a manual SC300 brake pedal setup was able to get this new and it fits well enough with a little modification. If you don't get the SC300 manual brake pedal you have to cut your stock one in half to fit your feet in there. I originally cut my brake pedal in half but couldn't wear shoes on my left leg as my shoes would hit the break every time I pressed the clutch.

Also installed Megan rear subframe collars, which made a huge difference in shifting and the way the rear end felt, besides the 6speed swap this was the most noticeable upgrade I have done to the car. I will more than likely upgrade to poly subframe bushings in the future but for now these are great and highly recommended as these cars have really sloppy rear ends with the stock worn-out bushings. A loose and worn-out rear end really affects the smoothness and quality of the shifts.

Still have to install the ATEMU and resistor kit to get rid of the check engine lights.

Please ignore the dirt and stuff XD goal was to finish the car before winter.

Will keep updating and editing the thread with more details. Will also try to add a video sooner or later as for now the car is parked for the winter.

Some Pics of the flywheel and pressure plate along with the transmission before installation, you will have to bolt on the oem auto bell housing to the manual transmission.

Due to the size of the OEM bell housing and the new transmission, you will have to modify the transmission tunnel to make room for it to fit nicely. Enlarging the transmission tunnel was probably the worst part and most labor-intensive part of this swap.

Thanks to the adjustment of the CD999 serial nine shifter this was the final product. Looks OEM and I get to keep the cup holders.

This is how it looks atm, haven't done much to the exterior as I bought it like this from another longtime forum member.

One with my GS430 which I also bought here from another longtime member, have big plans for this one as I am looking to do a 6-speed swap and supercharge.

Congrats on the swap. Looks beautiful. I'm a sucker for keeping the cupholders too and I'm glad you were able to do so. Well done! It's a shame Toyota didn't offer a manual in these from the outset, but nice that there are options available.

Jesus christ brother.. that white GS400 is absolutely beautiful. 10/10, I love the wheels and the ride height. How do you like the CD009? Any complaints or quirks?
