Toyota Land Cruiser Survives Shocking RPG Attack in Broad Daylight (VIDEO)
A Filipino mayor was out in his armored Toyota Land Cruiser when he was targeted in an assassination attempt, but things didn’t go as planned.
In many parts of the world, government officials and folks in certain professions have to take extra precautions when they’re out traveling around town, largely because, well, such simple tasks could be quite dangerous. Whether to be political unrest or just an opposing party that seeks to take out certain officials, those folks have to live with their head on a literal swivel – and move around in armored vehicles. Luckily for one Filipino mayor, this armored Toyota Land Cruiser was up to the task.
As we can see in this rather shocking CCTV footage provided by the Shariff Aguak Municipality – and later shared by Club Lexus member rominl – Mayor Akmad Ampatuan was out traveling in his armored Toyota Land Cruiser on Sunday, in broad daylight, when a van approached nearby. A man got out of that van with an anti-tank weapon, crouched down, and proceeded to shoot a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) directly at the black SUV, while another man with a rifle provided cover behind him.
That RPG hit its intended target dead center, and from one angle at least, things didn’t exactly look good. From a different view in the provided clip, we see the Toyota Land Cruiser making a turn, at which point it’s impacted by the explosive, and just proceeds to continue moving on like nothing even happened – heck, it doesn’t even appear as if the SUV suffered major damage.
That much is confirmed by a photo showing the aftermath of this brazen attack – the driver’s side rear door is dented up, and there are some obvious burn marks present, not to mention a missing piece of trim. However, considering what happened here, that’s a shockingly minimal amount of damage. Clearly, whoever put this armored Toyota Land Cruiser together knew what they were doing.
Aside from easily surviving an RPG attack, this Land Cruiser also protected its occupants as designed – Ampatuan was unharmed, though two members of his security detail were injured.
Police quickly sprang into action and wound up locating the three suspects involved in the attack, and they all perished in an operation led by a joint team of local law enforcement and the military, according to NBC News.
