Smile Dashcam

New/Recent owner of LX600. Thinking to get dashcam installed. Any suggestions or concerns anyone have from their experience? I am more inclined towards getting OEM speceilly the one that works even when the car is shut off and parked.

Thanks in Advance

I have the Lexus dashcam in my 2024 LX 600. Frankly, I don't find it very useful. The data retrieval requires a number of steps on both the device and your phone. I have used it twice since I purchased the vehicle and found it too cumbersome to use. As a disclaimer, I have no idea how other dashcams work so this may be normal. I just wish there was a direct link to your phone, even in real time, to see what was going on. Just my opinion of course.

Thanks for sharing your honest opinion, appreciate. I havent used any personally so cant say either but during my last visit to lexus I was informed there are two different models available. One that works only when the car is running while other one continue to work even when its parked, may I know which one you have ? And is there any subscription you have to go through to continue using it?

Sure. I have the one that works all the time. Also, if you get bumped while parked by someone, it records also. The integration in the vehicle is awesome and does not look like an add on. I don't recall any subscription as everything is stored locally. Again, the features and look in the car are great. It's just getting the data off the unit is a hassle. If you used it all the time, like anything else, it would probably get easier. The good thing is "if" I ever needed it, the video would be there.

Perfect….!!! Thats all I wanted to know. I asked the dealer and it will cost me somewhere around $1500 including labor and parts. Would you mind sharing some pics of it?

woah, $1500 is way too much! Mine was installed, by my dealer, for less $900 (parts, labor and taxes included). Honestly, i would've done the install if i wanted to, but i got lazy. The car care nut showed how to install on his Tundra and it's basically the same. Shope around a different dealer but $1500 is way too much. I think the part cost <$400 or so. They shouldn't be charging $1100 for labor.

Thanks for sharing. Truly appreciate. I do feel same for the installation cost. Looking at the pics, i dont feel its too complicate to install on my own also feel maybe its just connecting the wires. Lets see…!!!

You can skip to the dashcam chapter. It's pretty much the same for all Toyota/Lexus. When i had my windshield replaced, i had to buy another plate to stick the windshield and the parts guy sent me a template for our model. All i had to do is print it and cut it.

The hardwire process isn’t too difficult. I recommend getting a dual camera that have both front and rear digital recording capability. This makes the install much easier as you don’t have to setup two separate cameras and quality is really good.

Here is my posting that has step by step guide.

It seems like the DIY for LX600 is non-existent as many of you folks just take it to Lexus for everything. You’ve worked hard for the fruit you have reaped, spend it as you will. 🙂
