Is the Lexus RC F Under-appreciated?

By -

Fast Lane Car’s review of the RC F proposes that the Japanese coupe is an excellent alternative to the BMW M4 and Audi RS5.

The Lexus RC F was launched in 2014, and the luxury coupe definitely boosted the sex appeal of the Lexus brand. It perfectly combines style and performance.

Packing a 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8, it makes 467 horsepower and 389 pound-feet of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which apparently deploys artificial intelligence technology to enhance the driving performance. Lexus can go 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 168 mph.

That said, another important element of the RC F is the design, which clearly impressed the The Fast Lane Car reviewers in their latest video: Unfiltered Buddy Review: Flop or Fantastic?

Lexus RC F Review

“I think Lexus actually hit it out of the ballpark when it comes to style-wise,” says presenter Roman Mica. “Every time I get in it, it feels like people are looking at me. [The RC F] feels like something special…almost bespoke.” The interior, another important element to please the high-spending luxury buyers, is equally impressive. “Everything in here feels rich and smells rich,” said Mica. “There’s nothing here that screams budget at all.”

When it comes to the performance, some critics have said that the handling of the RC F is a bit supple compared to the BMW M4. The TFLCar folks feel likewise. “Think of [the RC-F] as a [BMW] M4 alternative. It offers similar power figures, same sort of luxury and quality…but not so track focused in its performance,” says Michael Curtis.

Finally, there is the price. At $65,000, the RC F is not exactly cheap, but Mica actually thinks the coupe could go on to become a collectible. Although we are unsure whether ‘investing’ in a Lexus sports car would be a wise economic thing to do. “This is the car you want to buy today if you want to…make something that’s very collectible happen,” he says. “Because I think this one is going to be the one that people 20 or 30 years from now are gonna be like ‘damn I wish I had it when it was new.’”

The video is very well done, the TFL Car crew tests out the RC F’s features, test drives the ride, and gives a lot of great information and opinions along the way.
