2024 Lexus TX 350 Premium

The 2024 Lexus TX will be available in six trims with three different powertrains, including a V6-powered plug-in hybrid. Here’s everything you need to know.

Full disclosure: Lexus USA flew me to Austin, Texas to spend a day driving and testing the 2024 Lexus TX, providing transportation and accommodations. As always, my opinions remain my own.

There are essentially two types of SUVs in the world: truck-based and crossover. Truck-based SUVs are typically a larger, boxier, body-on-frame design like the Lexus LX and GX. Crossover SUVs, which are more car-like in stature, tend to drive a little smoother and are often lighter and more fuel-efficient than their truck-based brethren.

Built on the same GA-K platform as the 2023 RX and 2022 NX (not to mention the Toyota Grand Highlander), the 2024 Lexus TX is the company’s first dedicated three-row crossover SUV model. Yes, the previous generation RX offered an extended wheelbase “L” option, but it wasn’t a distinct model. (Nor was it especially good at being a three-row SUV.) The all-new TX, however, is designed for Americans. And for that reason, it’s also going to be assembled exclusively here in the States.

In this buyer’s guide, we’re going to start with a general overview before a doing deep dive into each available model and trim, and lastly, subjective reactions. There’s a table of contents below to help navigate.

Engineering & Exterior

As the largest and longest Lexus crossover SUV, the TX boasts additional welds, adhesives, and bracing to make the vehicle’s structure and body more rigid. Added rigidity minimizes NVH aka noise, vibration, and harshness while helping Lexus engineers chase what they refer to as the Lexus Driving Signature. That is to say, if both Toyota and Lexus make sister models based on the same platform, the Lexus tends to be quieter on the inside, smoother and more relaxing throughout, and a touch sportier in terms of handling, acceleration, and braking.

On the outside, Lexus has pivoted to what they call the unified spindle grille with standard LED projector headlights and LED foglights standard on all models. The daytime running lights also serve as the turn signals. Six colors will be available at launch —

  • Caviar
  • Celestial Silver Metallic
  • Cloudburst Gray
  • Incognito
  • Matador Red Mica
  • Nightfall Mica
  • Wind Chill Pearl

Worth noting, Incognito is limited to 500h and 550h+ models and was a journalist favorite at the press drive we attended because it’s a modern flat grey. Matador Red Mica also sparkled and stunned in the hot Texas sunlight.

Interior

2024 Lexus TX Interior

Inside, the TX comes standard with seven-passenger seating unless the optional second-row captain’s chairs are selected, which brings the seat count to six. Lexus’ goal was to seat six to seven adults comfortably, which is why there are little touches like a third row that sits a touch higher than the second so passengers feel less confined. There are features like modular cup holders (that you can move or remove… at least until you lose them), seven USB ports tucked in all around the cabin as well as a standard wireless charging pad. The larger 14-inch Lexus Interface screen with wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto is also standard on every TX. The base radio includes 12 speakers, but the optional 21-speaker Mark Levinson system sounds a lot better.

Three interior color options will be available —

  • Black
  • Birch
  • Peppercorn

As a three-row crossover, the 2024 Lexus TX offers 20.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row with all of the seats in the up position. Fold the third row down at that number jumps to 57.4 cubic feet. And lastly, with the second and third rows down, the TX boasts 97 cubic feet of cargo space. For reference, a large American SUV like the Tahoe offers 25.5, 72.6, and 122.9 cubic feet, respectively. And the Toyota Sienna boasts 33.5, 75.2, and 101.0 cubic feet.

Powertrains & Pricing

2.4L Turbo I4

When the 2024 Lexus TX goes into production for its first model year, it will offer two powertrains with a third plug-in hybrid following some time in the future.

TX 350

The TX 350 features the same 2.4L turbo inline 4-cylinder engine as the NX 350 and RX 350. Paired with an eight-speed transmission and available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, it produces 275 horsepower, can hit 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, and consumes 23 mpg combined. It’s available in a base, Premium, or Luxury trim. Second-row captain’s chairs are optional.

Base TX 350 MSRP pricing is as follows (not including destination and delivery charges):

  • TX 350 FWD — $55,050
  • TX 350 AWD — $56,650
  • 350 Premium FWD – $58,450
  • TX 350 Premium AWD – $60,050
  • TX 350 Luxury FWD – $60,950
  • TX 350 Luxury AWD – $62,550

TX 500h F Sport Performance

TX 500h

TX 550h F Sport Performance models share the same powertrain as the RX 500h. It starts with the front-wheel-drive-oriented 2.4L turbo inline 4-cylinder engine from the 350m and adds a DIRECT 4 rear electric “e-axle” boosting total system output to 366 horsepower. Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, the TX 500h is available as either Premium or Luxury trim. It can sprint to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds and earns an EPA-estimated 27 mpg combined. It is only available as an F Sport Performance model, which includes an active suspension system, six-piston brakes, and standard second-row captain’s chairs..

TX 500h base MSRPs are as follows (not including destination and delivery):

  • TX 500h F Sport Performance Premium – $69,350
  • TX 500h F Sport PerformanceLuxury – $72,650

TX 550h+

TX 550h+

In Lexus model naming, an “h” stands for hybrid, and “h+” stands for plug-in hybrid. Lexus plug-in hybrids work by driving around in EV-only mode (unless one stomps on the pedal or selects an alternate driving mode) until the battery is discharged. At which point they act like a conventional hybrid.

Only available in the Luxury trim, the TX 550h+ combines the Lexus-fan-favorite 3.5L naturally aspirated V6 with a plug-in hybrid electric drive unit and a DIRECT 4 rear e-axle. With 406 total system power, the 550h+ features a CVT transmission and can hit 60mph in 5.9 seconds. Pricing has not been announced, nor has Lexus confirmed the battery size, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it in the $80,000 range.

Speaking of range, the 550h+ should be capable of traveling 33 miles in EV-only mode and, when in hybrid mode, earn a combined rating of 29 mpg. It too features six-piston brakes.
