I would not get either as a first car.

Get something much less complicated to learn on first.

Which country are you from?

How advanced are your mechanical skills?

What tools/workshop equipment do you have access to?

Do you have experience reading diagnostic equipment like Techstream?

It should also be noted that Lexus parts generally have a price premium attached to them.

Armed with such experience you should be reasonably capable of making your own decisions.

Furthermore, there are plenty of material available to you in both 430 and 460 sub-forums to find out whatever you need as to what problems they present.

But again, I would stay away from both if you are on a tighter budget, which I expect that you might be.

Being versed in Toyotas as you say you are, maybe Corollas or Camrys might be more suitable for now.

You are good to go in terms of mechanical skills and access to knowledge and equipment, much, much better than the average first owner.

A few other things to consider: The LS is a big car, sometimes new drivers do better with smaller cars that tend to be easier to drive. Depending on what year LS you buy, you may be missing newer safety and infotainment features. A car like the LS will use more gas, and more importantly it needs premium gas. Finally, assuming you are young, the LS may not impress your peers as much. I ended up with my LS because the 40-year old son thought it was too much of a grandpa car.

If you are OK with all that, then go for it.

Same here. You will not be happy. Gas mileage with premium fuel is brutal. Labor intensive repairs, even as DIY. Plenty of used parts, not so much aftermarket. In the + side, very plush, comfortable vehicle. Also, very reliable if it's been looked after.
Consider other Lexus models.
Good luck.

You can get most of the features of the LS460 in an ES350. For the same price, it will be 5-6 years newer, get much better gas mileage, and generally be more reliable (and MUCH cheaper to fix if/when something goes wrong).
