Car will not turnover unless the steering wheel is adjusted
I have a 2000 LX 470 which has a intermittent problem that I am having trouble resolving. Occasionally the car will not start, but if I reposition the steering wheel ( adjust to the left or right) the car starts right up. This happens more often when the car is cold but it can happen anytime. I thought this could be due to an alignment problem. Of course when I brought the car in,, it started right up. My mechanic thought maybe it was due to a dirty throttle. He cleaned that and it did start up consistently for a couple of months but now the problem is back. Anyone have any thoughts?

I had a car that did that . If I can remember correctly the steering wheel lock was putting pressure on the ignition switch and miss aligning the connection .Once the pressure was taken off the switch by turning the key and moving the ignition switch its self back and forth a little it would start . It just got worse and worse or I should say move and more play in the key and the ignition . I finely had to replace the ignition switch . Try leaving your wheels straight ahead when you park . When you start the car hold the ignition switch to its most counter clockwise position while turning the key keeping the switch and key turning together . If that lets you start the car every time just get a new switch . Also check and post this on the IH8mud forum they have a lot of good knowledgeable people there that will steer you in the right direction . http://www.ih8mud.com/
