Default Aftermarket door speakers - what are you using?

My "new to me" 2004 GX470 has some buzzing/distortion in the door speakers and from doing some research it looks like this is a pretty common problem. I'm looking in to aftermarket options and it looks like DCGold still offers a made-in-America 6x9 8ohm that will work, although it is pricey at about $300 for the pair. http://www.dcgold.com/car-and-marine...nce-line/n69r/

I know other folks have installed 6/12 inch woofers in adapter plates in the 6x9 opening, and it seems like there are more options for an 8ohm 61/2 than in the 6x9 size but I'm not sure at this point what might be the better option.

Does anyone happen to know how much space is actually available in the opening? I'm assuming the mounting depth is only about 3 inches but that is just a guess.

Finally, for those who have replaced your door speakers, what did you go with and do you like the way that it sounds? I would love some advice before I start taking my door panels off!

My GX doesn't have navigation, if that matters. I researched, bought these from Crutchfield for the front doors. I am THRILLED with them because they DRAMATICALLY improved the sound and they fit perfectly using the accompanying accessories. YMMV, but I highly recommend them. I was prepared to spend significantly more money but decided to give these a try and am glad I did.

Great, thank you. I assume these are 4ohm speakers? That's really the only thing stopping me from ordering a set right now.

Update: I sent an email to DCGold last night and David Chaffey (the owner) got back to me and said that their classic and reference series 6x9 speakers can be had in 8ohm and that they still have availability on the N69LS which is the 6x9 that DCGold made specifically for Lexus vehicles.

He gave me their phone number and said I could call to order anytime. So it looks like the only way to get the N69LS is directly from DCGold but it least it is still available.

I am considering the N69LS but am still considering other options also.

i had an o4, one speaker went after 11 years...i made life simple and just used an OEM...not enough of a savings to make a difference...had the mark levinson system...wanted to keep the speakers matched, for better or worse...

Which is certainly still an option for me as well. But what I am seeing is the ML option is about $150 or more per speaker, which is about the same as I could get the DC Gold product for. And the DC Gold would be a far more robust option for that kind of money.

If I could find the ML OEM replacement on the cheap it would be an easy decision.

Is the Non-Nav unit 4 Ohm or 8 Ohm?

I would like to know this as well. Nav units are all the ML 8ohm hardware, correct? At least mine is.

I hear you, but i only needed to replace one so i just kept everything matching...that was cheaper than going after speakers that were working

I assume you haven't seen this discussion for an alternative replacement speaker. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...are-cheap.html

Thanks for the link. That seems like a very simple and cost effective replacement part for the ML 6x9 door speakers. I think I'll go with it.

Bought a nice pair of kenwood 6x9 speakers for the front doors. It actually was a lot easier than i was expecting. I didnt find much online at all but once i got the door card off the inside is very much standard toyota. I need to change the other two speakers in the door (mid level and tweeter).
