Default Navigation System Issue

I have a 2025 TX500h. Recently while on a long trip (mid-Feb), my nav system freaked out for the first time. The Lexus navigation lost me and suddenly thought I was more that 7,000 miles away from my current position. Each of my "recents" which ranged from 150 to 1100 miles away showed up as 7758 miles away. After recalibrating the system, it seemed to clear up and the distances were again accurate.

All was fine until this past week - coincidently the day I took my TX in for its 10k service. My 12 "recents" each showed 8391 miles away when I left home for the 80 mile trek to the dealership, and still had not righted when I arrived. Of course, it had righted by the time the tech looked at it and they were not able to reproduce it. My service writer made notes and has the picture I took when we left the house. He said he would note it and watch for any service bulletins. I told my service write I did NOT want to do a complete reset on the infotainment system as I was fearful of losing all the settings that I had made across the system.

All other parts of the infotainment system were working great w/o exception. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I would imagine there are fewer people using the built in Nav compared to those using Android Auto or Carplay. If there is a problem, fewer people will discover it. However, I have seen GPS loss happen on various devices and think I am not where I am. I have never seen it that far away, but maybe the system has a "home" built into it? Was the location it thought you were in Japan by chance?

Great question as to where it thought I was. During the second freakout, the little arrow that should indicate where it thought I was, was positioned over Washington State. This was accurate, so there was a complete disconnect between the arrow and the distances shown. I don't recall where the arrow was the first time.

I typically use Carplay as my primary nav source, but was trying to get used to the Lexus system. My phone also seems to heat up on long trips with Carplay which I try to avoid. Just glad I had Carplay for when the nav system crapped out.

The built-in Nav system in my 2026 TX 5000h and 2023 RX350 has been rock solid. It's advantage over the Google Maps Android app is that it displays much more info in the HUD, so I like and use it.

Perhaps the GPS module is failing (sure sounds like it)? Also - be aware that it IS a cellphone linked telematic device - through the cars 4G system, not yout phone. So when in fringe coverage areas OR in and around tall buildings, dropouts can happen, just as with Google Maps, Waze, etc.

Unrelated to Lexus as I use car play but for a period of time I would be driving on a turnpike and my iPhone would have me about 2 to 5 miles away driving through fields and lakes, and constantly giving me updated directions. This was in well covered areas near Philadelphia. I eventually traded in my phone for a new one.

I do think it is the GPS. Cell towers work off of unique serial numbers for each tower that allow the software to jump from tower to tower without skipping a beat. It is also setting locations based on triangulations of the three closest towers. If for some reason the GPS system misinterprets the tower for one in some distant location, it will throw off the triangulation and your location. I suspect this is not very common.

I have weird issues in the city with my android auto. I'll be driving along and everything just drops out/disconnects. After a while I have to unplug my phone and reconnect and then restart both nav and music. This happens multiple times in a 45 minute drive. Drives me insane. Also, most time when I initially get in my car and start up, my siriusxm on my phone takes over whatever position the "source" button was in. I'm hating this infotronic system and therefore my car.
