Default Attention prospective owners - here are the flaws

New to the Lexus family and have now been driving my 2025 Lexus TX 350 for just under 5 months/6k miles.

While I am pleased with the overall quality, here are my major complaints, which may be of use to prospective buyers who are comparison shopping:
  • Password input requirement. Every month or so my screen refuses to boot up until I enter a 6-digit passcode. Which I can never remember as my wife and I share the vehicle. IMO this is a major safety issue as you can just drive off and yet have zero ability to make adjustments that are only possible through the touch screen. Also I see zero reason why I should ever need to add a passcode. Ever.
  • Screen boot up delay. On average I have to wait 10-15 seconds for my screen display to activate. IMO this is a big problem compared to other vehicle that have manual controls or buttons. I can't
    • Activate or adjust Air Conditioning or heat
    • Change music/sound input
    • Add a map destination
    • Adjust rear defrost
    • Switch to sport mode
I can do all of these things on my Benz and BMW through buttons and dials.
  • Screen controls. If I want to change a radio station or podcast I have to touch the screen. Make the map larger or smaller - touch the screen. Adjust temp - touch the screen. Everything is done through the screen which is very bad as it requires me to take my eyes off the road. Even worse the road vibration means I often am unable to touch the tiny part of the screen that is needed to adjust the map size, etc.
  • Puny gas tank. 300 miles doesn't really cut it.
  • 5k initial service does not include oil change. Seriously this is absurd. If Lexus had any class it would include an oil change at 1200 miles and 5k. Of course I paid for an extra change.
Overall I am very happy with the way the vehicle drives, seat comfort and the features generally. But the functionality and controls are poor compared to many other vehicles I have driven. it is disappointing that Lexus is either clueless about the screen tech, is more concerned about aesthetics, or simply doesn't care because it doesn't want to increase its costs by adding a few buttons and *****.

Many of those functions (hvac, drive mode etc) can be controlled with the touch sensitive steering wheel buttons once programmed. Disclaimer requires HUD I believe.

Surprising that I only have one issue you mentioned and that’s the fuel tank issue.

Concerning climate control. My 2025 TX 550h+ has ***** for setting the temp. And yes I have to touch the control points on the screen to make other changes. But while on the screen, they are not virtual, but are dedicated locations. So, perhaps not something you can change by touch, but also not something I need to flip through screens and menus.

Also, the tech that came to my house, after sale to teach me about the car, made a point to say to just turn all the climate options on and use auto mode. This has worked perfect. The only thing I have to change is the temperature via the dial ****. They said if I wanted a higher fan speed, just to adjust the temperature accordingly to make the fan kick on higher. Versus, actually changing the fan speed, which will kick it out of auto mode. I find the climate control to be the best I've had in any car I have ever been in. I'm just comfortable without needing to twiddle with controls. That said, I can't speak to what's going on in the back seats. But I've had no complaints.

There is the delay at the start for all the tech to come up on the screen. But I learned the car can be driven before this happens. But if you do want to change anything via the screen before you start moving, you do have to wait. But my old car had a sound/navigation system that had a similar long startup. Probably closer to 30 seconds. So, if anything, the delay is shorter than I'm used to.

Honestly, the fact this car has dedicated ***** for the cabin temperature and a sound volume ****, is a lot better then many other cars. But I'm not going to claim it's the best out there either. None of it bothers me. No user interface is every going to be perfect and people have different preferences.

I've not had the password issue in the car. I do find the Lexus phone app requiring me to reenter the user name and password randomly and otherwise requiring a face recognition. I mostly make use of that when I need to get into the car but don't have my keys on me. I would NEVER rely on the app as my key. I know someone that does that with their Tesla without issue. But the Lexus app is too flaky for me to consider relying on that.

Have had absolutely no issues with my 2025 TX 350 AWD car other than recall notice for adding gas tank protector, which I will do in December with first oil change.....very satisfied with digital system and the Lexus app........

The 6-digit password has a very easy fix. Quick review of why it is happening.
The Lexus App in your phone(s) has displays for tire pressure, fuel, location of
the car, status of open windows/door locks and more. While the simple Bluetooth
pairing did and does still provide the phone and text function, the App does more.

Simple fix: Open the Lexus App and find the tiny "head and shoulders" icon upper right.
Tap it and then tap "Account" in the middle of the screen.
Find "Security Settings" and reset PIN under Account PIN.
Compose a 6-digit PIN (Birthday or Anniversary?) repeat to confirm.
Next time the maddening dialog box pops up in the car...enter the new PIN.
you will never see it again!

Solution to the screen phobic observations is simply verbal commands.
Short press the steering wheel "speech" button to speak to the car.
Long press the steering wheel speech button to speak to your phone.
Always start verbal commands with a Verb - Call, Dial, Text, Tune, Play, show...
Short press - change the temp to 69 degrees, tune 93.1 FM, play Sirius Channel Bluesville.
Long press - Call Bob's cell, Text Mary's cell, show me the way to Wrigley Field,
play Eric Clapton on Pandora, find the nearest Wendy's

Agree with the other poster regarding voice controls. It works seamless for me, I’ve had zero complaints and have no need to take my eyes off the road. Physical buttons may be a personal preference for some, but it isn’t a safety concern if you use the tech as it was designed. Screen really doesn’t take that long to load, I start the car then buckle and sit my phone down to charge…pretty much ready by the.

I do think the tank is tiny…Thankfully I have the 550h so I don’t think about it unless we are on a road trip and then the family is twitching to stop anyway, so not a huge deal.
