Yes both my front struts went out prematurely. The front left went out around 23K miles and the left front strut went out around 35K miles. Both were fixed under warranty but in all the cars I have ever owned, I have never had failures this early and often. My car is stock height and no suspension modifications.
I also had a left front wheel bearing go out at 25K miles. I had to take it in three times because they kept claiming it was my tires. I switched my tires and the noise was still there so when I took it in the third time , a master tech drove my car with me in it and within 1 minute said :"Yep, that is definitely a failed wheel bearing. Sorry you had to bring it in so many times for this."

 

100k+ is very optimistic for stock struts to maintain their initial quality. I'd say something more like 75k can very reasonably be expected though.

AS long as your dealer/Lexus will cover this you should be OK on the new set for years to come. I would think Lexus should cover it since you're just ever so slightly out of warranty (time wise, not even mileage wise) and your vehicle has a documented history of this same issue albeit on the front.

 

Just to add onto my earlier comment about two of my struts going out very early on my GS350. I also have a GX470 with 150+ K miles on the original struts and they are still performing within spec (not like brand new but are performing well). I have read and been told by service people at the dealers to never let my GX470 go because they are practically bulletproof and were very over-engineered. I bought my GX470 at 28K miles on it and the only thing I have ever had to replace out of the regular service/maintenance items was the alternator at 135K miles.

 

 

Were you by chance hearing a clunky/knocking sound from that corner? When turning and at bumps and dips..

Reason I ask is because I have been trying to identify what is a sound coming from my car and my strut is the next thing I want to check.

 

I've been having an issue hearing a squeaking noise when ever I'm going over mild bumps at low speed.

 

Left front stock KYB strut is leaking on my 2015 Gs 350 with only 31K . Seems to drive ok.

 

86k stock structs no problems, used to have a 1998 Honda accord 232k never had an issue with stock struts.

I guess if you have bigger rims and stiffer shocks your more susceptible to premature failure, because the suspension takes more of a beating.

 

any1 know where to buy the kyb extage? my 4 shock is leaking. im at 70k mile only hopefully these will last longer than oem ones. ><

I know I'm late to the party, but I bought a used 2013 GS 350 F Sport AWD and recently had the right rear strut/shock go out and my bumper to bumper says it's not covered since it's not the strut assembly. How'd everyone get Lexus to cover it?

 

What the hell does that mean? Your springs have to go bad at the same time?

 

These struts are not performing/lasting very well. Had to replace both of my front struts with just over 36,000 miles, one was leaking but best to replace in pairs. My friend has RX 350 with around 100,000 miles and front struts just replaced. Any ideas why failure with such low miles and others having same issue?
