Default Do you think the dealership will install coilovers

I heard its actually simpler and cheaper to get coilovers installed than springs. What have you guys heard. It just seeems like with the coiolovers the entire shock and spring assembly would be removerd together and simply replaced. Once that is done its a little trial and error with the height and damping settings.

labor and time wise its a little bit faster to install since u dont need to compress the springs take the shocks out and replace the new springs, like u said just replace the whole thing. I hardly think that the dealer would do that though, as its supposed to void your warranty if mess with the suspension at all. As far as I know, dealers will install their own products ie, TRD stuff on Scions/Toyotas etc, but not Tanabes that they dont sell. The only dealership I've heard that installs aftermarket items would be Carson in S. Ca.

ASPLS430...

I agree with you that the dealer most likely won't do the install, but I don't agree with you about the warranty issue. Adding an aftermarket part does not void a warranty, in fact it is illegal for the manufactuer to void it for this reason.

The aftermarket part would need to cause some damage to the vehicle, the manufacter would then need to prove the damage was caused by the aftermarket part, then the warranty would be voided. It would be voided only on that part of the car, not other unrelated parts.

sorry, i will never let dealer install anything aftermarket for me, aftermarket shop that specializes in suspension is the only way to go.

this is saying you go see an ophthalmologist for your heart problem, just because they are doctors doesn't mean they know how to treat you.

LOL

dont you have tein springs installed? and you're asking whether or not its easier to install coilovers?
-i'm sure if you find a dealer, they will install the coils and charge you both your arms/legs
-you heard correctly about install
-i have heard what you heard; oh wait, i actually had it done and watched my mechanic do the entire install

it depends on what your installing honestly. if its just coilovers themselves then it would be the same amount of time as springs seeing as you just have the coilover spring, sleeve and adjustable perch. you still need to remove the mount to install it. if you have a pre-assembled coilover setup that has the strut/shock already with it then all you need to do is add the mount depending if it comes with it or not.

a dealer would install it if you really want to, however they will charge you out the *** for something you can get a specialized shop to do. hell you can even do it yourself. lowering cars is not hard at all. as far as the warranty goes like Balnk said it will not void the warranty. the dealer will have to prove that the part is the cause of the problem. if they cant then they can not void your warranty. look up magnusson-moss waranty act

There is a famous tuner shop in scottsdale called dynacomp. The usually run cars in the SCC ultimate tuner car challenge. They have alot of experience

going to dealership to install these stuff is always a joke, they never prove to be a better place than good tuner shop. unless i know the exact tech working on my car (and better be a good one), no chance i am going dealership

coilovers are USUALLY easier to install, but NOT always. it depends on the coilovers design if it's full springs/shocks assembly with the pillow / upper mount and everything, the yes, it's pretty easy direct swap. however if it's only half assembled, meaning if you need the upper mount, then it's more or less like springs install

for example the tein cst, front is full replacement, rear you need to use the upper mount from stock assembly

AGREE!!!

Especially when they are charging you an arm and a leg!!!

Based on Lexus' labor chart, it takes 5 hours to install (that is if they know how to intall the coilover), and at $100+ per hour... that is $500+ just in labor (usually at the performance shop they only charge about $200 in labor).

But again, you do get a loaner vehicle while they work on your toy!!!

I will check with this shop in scottsdale called dynocomp. They are actually authorized dealers for tein. What alot of you cali boys are forgetting is that alot of us dont live in cali where tuner shops are a dime a dozen. I grew up in LA and now live in AZ, but moved here from Boston. I have seen the difference in numbers of shops in town. In a place like phoenix the shops are around but they dont have big names and great reps like alot of the shops in LA. Man even when I had a full ecu retune on my G35, I drove the car to lA to have the ecu custom tuned at the shop. I didnt want to do the lame mail in my ecu and hope the guys gets it right with this generic tune. Bottom line is alot of us dont have the automotive Mecca outside the front door so we pay the extra money to get it done by someone we know will get it right. We all have money, we drive GS's for gods sake. I f we need to toss it around a little do it. I am not concerened with the cost , only the end result

If anything its more like seeing an optometrist for your opthalmology eval. Same general knowledge and basic training, but the opthalmologist does surgery and treats more serious ocular disease. In other words the lexus guys can do this stuff with no prob, but they dont on a regular basis. so you goto the tuner shop (opthalmologist) who is used to more invasive procedures/ builds etc. Botom line is the dealership is where I had all of the work done on my last car. **** they sell the aftermarket parts at the dealerships here in AZ. I think Cali is surprisingly behind on some of this stuff. I bought my exhaust and my springs through superstition springs lexus and I will most likely order coilovers through them or scottsdale acura who is also a authorized tanabe dealership. a little different but the result is the same. Plus the dealership gives me a loaner and I dont have to sit at the shop waiting. Ieven got a RX loaner when I had the exhaust put on so I could take the stock unit home. I love my dealership (infiniti and lexus). They really take care of all of my needs ... maintenance and tuning.
