I heard its actually simpler and cheaper to get coilovers installed than springs. What have you guys heard. It just seeems like with the coiolovers the entire shock and spring assembly would be removerd together and simply replaced. Once that is done its a little trial and error with the height and damping settings.
labor and time wise its a little bit faster to install since u dont need to compress the springs take the shocks out and replace the new springs, like u said just replace the whole thing. I hardly think that the dealer would do that though, as its supposed to void your warranty if mess with the suspension at all. As far as I know, dealers will install their own products ie, TRD stuff on Scions/Toyotas etc, but not Tanabes that they dont sell. The only dealership I've heard that installs aftermarket items would be Carson in S. Ca.
ASPLS430...
I agree with you that the dealer most likely won't do the install, but I don't agree with you about the warranty issue. Adding an aftermarket part does not void a warranty, in fact it is illegal for the manufactuer to void it for this reason.
The aftermarket part would need to cause some damage to the vehicle, the manufacter would then need to prove the damage was caused by the aftermarket part, then the warranty would be voided. It would be voided only on that part of the car, not other unrelated parts.

sorry, i will never let dealer install anything aftermarket for me, aftermarket shop that specializes in suspension is the only way to go.
this is saying you go see an ophthalmologist for your heart problem, just because they are doctors doesn't mean they know how to treat you.

LOL

dont you have tein springs installed? and you're asking whether or not its easier to install coilovers?

-i'm sure if you find a dealer, they will install the coils and charge you both your arms/legs
-you heard correctly about install
-i have heard what you heard; oh wait, i actually had it done and watched my mechanic do the entire install

it depends on what your installing honestly. if its just coilovers themselves then it would be the same amount of time as springs seeing as you just have the coilover spring, sleeve and adjustable perch. you still need to remove the mount to install it. if you have a pre-assembled coilover setup that has the strut/shock already with it then all you need to do is add the mount depending if it comes with it or not.
a dealer would install it if you really want to, however they will charge you out the *** for something you can get a specialized shop to do. hell you can even do it yourself. lowering cars is not hard at all. as far as the warranty goes like Balnk said it will not void the warranty. the dealer will have to prove that the part is the cause of the problem. if they cant then they can not void your warranty. look up magnusson-moss waranty act

going to dealership to install these stuff is always a joke, they never prove to be a better place than good tuner shop. unless i know the exact tech working on my car (and better be a good one), no chance i am going dealership
coilovers are USUALLY easier to install, but NOT always. it depends on the coilovers design if it's full springs/shocks assembly with the pillow / upper mount and everything, the yes, it's pretty easy direct swap. however if it's only half assembled, meaning if you need the upper mount, then it's more or less like springs install
for example the tein cst, front is full replacement, rear you need to use the upper mount from stock assembly

Especially when they are charging you an arm and a leg!!!

Based on Lexus' labor chart, it takes 5 hours to install (that is if they know how to intall the coilover), and at $100+ per hour... that is $500+ just in labor (usually at the performance shop they only charge about $200 in labor).
But again, you do get a loaner vehicle while they work on your toy!!!
