Default calipers

i have a question for those who already painted their calipers

1.how many times did you painted your calipers?
2.in your experience did you need to re-paint them later on?
3.if so how long was that period

thanks in advance

well, i painted my calipers too. the front it's staying in my garage collecting dust but the rear is holding up good on the car.

i believe i painted like 5 coats of black gloss and 5 coats of clear. yes, VERY thick. i can wash and rub the calipers anyway i want.

i don't see why i would need to repaint them now. i don't see any chips yet. with this thick coats i think it will stay for a while.

here are some pics

only look at the rear, the front isn't painted

oh, i would definitely do that. get a day, use soap water to clean the whole caliper, and give it another 4 or 5 coats according to paint instructions. make sure you don't overdo it and wrinkle. after that it should be very durable

oh btw i used normal engine enamel 500C paint

oh you plan on doing the sticker too? if that's the case, you need two days, which is like 2 weeks apart. the first day put on the black coat, wait 2 weeks for the paint to totally dried up, put on the sticker and then spend a day on clear

that's why i can wash it at will. if don't have clear, the sticker would be gone by now

hahaa, nonono.... first it depends on the paint you use. the one i use, it has specific instructions saying that all coats have to be at least 10 to 15 mins apart, and do NOT put on anymore coats 1 hr after first coat. after that you need a week at least to totally dry it

so what i did it, on one sat, i cleaned the calipers, and put on first coat of black gloss, 15 mins (i waited 15 mins coz' every coat i put on was thick), 2nd, etc... until i put on the 5th coat at the hour.

then i let it dry for 2 weeks (reality proved that 1 week wasn't enough).

i cleaned the calipers again, put on the stickers, and repeat the same process and put on 5 coats of clear....

that's how i did it on my car

Talking

ok thanks

i was suggested to use G2 although thats not what was used when my calipers was painted..

i bought a paint long time ago, and i was waiting for a call from my mechanic when i can bring my car and use his lift to put car and take off all four wheels at the same time..

mean while when i was changing my tires the other day one of the guy who works there asked me if i want to paint my calipers and he just happened to have black paint for this specific purpose .. so he was changing my tires and paint my calipers as well ( free of charge ) but he only painted it once since my car wasn't for very long time in that tire shop..

so if i understand correctly now i need to paint them again, going use my paint this time.. and then going do clear with stickers i can't actually wait to see my car rollin' w/ stickers on calipers i think it adds a nice touch to any car especially if its says LEXUS on it

yeah that's correct. i didn't use g2, imho that's waste of money, so expensive for the paint whereas the engine enamel i got from kragen was only 3 bucks a bottle and i still have plenty left in the can. my paint it still holding up very well, no bubble and no chip, that means it's no problem

but watch out though. usually these paints, you put on and should not drive the car for the next 3 hrs or so. you want the paint to become dry to touch and also not bubble when you start braking

well, after they paint it they put new tires then they did wheel balancing so it took actually a long time they had some other cars before mine.. so i think it's ok at least so far
