Question Steering column play, from left to right

Seems like my steering column is loose somewhere, but I do not know where to start. It has a little bit of play when you grab the wheel and move it left and right without turning the wheel. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it?

I would start with the rack and pinion bushings. If they seem good, then check the inner and outer tie rod ends.

Steering rack, bushings, inner and outer tie rods were all purchased new less than two years ago.
The problem lies between the steering wheel and where the steering column meets the steering rack.

Why was this moved to the suspension and brake section? This has nothing to do with suspension components, the problem is with the steering column under my dash.

Luxor, looks like we might have a similar problem.

You have play left and right? I have play up, down, left, and right lol. I think the problem is actually inside the actual column. I purchased a replacement from OLT (thanks) but I know it's going to be a major hassle to remove the wheel, under dash, and center console just to get to it. Not to mention I have no idea how the column connects to the steering shaft.

Grab the steering column from under the hood, and try shaking it up and down. If you see play inside the cabin (you might need a second person inside) then it's screwed. You will need to replace it. That's what's happened with mine at least.

This is on a Tacoma, but check out this vid. It gives you a decent idea on how to replace it and what might be the issue.

Listen at 7:39, that's probably our issue.

check the 12mm bolt on the U-joint that connects to the rack.
