I spent a few hours with my machinist last night and we got work done.
For anyone that is curious, this is how you properly do bags over coilovers when the companies use the spring on top and the bottom mount is too tall to leave the bag at the bottom. By the way, stock OEM/Factory shocks measure 5" to the spring perch.
Nice work! Was it expensive to modify? Take some pictures of how you're gonna mount the bag to the shock.
Well, I've been bagged for months now, but finally got around to doing the rear mounts the right way.
It's a simple and straight forward set up - Screw the mount back onto the shock and place a collar to lock it in place and place the bag on top of the collar just like most bag over coils.
I know this guy, so he didn't charge me an arm and a leg, but it can get expensive. He spent almost 5 hours total doing this from planning to programming the CNC machine and to do test pieces, then finally the final mounts. These are all completely machined from beginning to end.
nice work man. so basically, is it just chopped off 2.5" or is there more work involved?
what about the top portion. do you add anything up there or is that it?

There's much more to it. He had to machine the right threads and diameter so you can screw the mount back onto the tube. Most of it was the math and programming time and the actual machining after he programmed the CNC machine and tested it took only about 6 minutes per side. The top portion was the stock Stance mount; we only machined the bottom of that tube when we cut it shorter.
could you have bought shorty shock bodies from stance themselves? i'm pretty sure they have really short ones for certain applications.
But these are not shock bodies. The length of the shocks doesn't matter when the bottom mount is too long and when you put the bag on it, it doesn't clear the frame of the car in the rear.

i think he means the shock body, the bracket if you will
exactly what i meant. the part that you had to cut, does stance offer something even shorter than 7.5"?
with stock rear tophat and a short shock body mount, rear airbags on coilovers seems very feasible
You don't need the rear top hot. All you need to do is make a rear sleeve and attach it to the top bag bracket on the Aerosport. It's just like a normal bag with sleeve, but flipped upside down, if you will.
Seeing as the bottom mount is a little over 2" of threaded space until the shock hits the actual screwed in mount bushing, they wouldn't be able to offer that because you couldn't adjust the strut any shorter. And Stance says the bottom mount needs to grab hold of at least 1.5" of threads on the shock for safety purposes, so you wouldn't have much room at all to adjust.
