Default spring clamps

Just curious, has anyone ever experimented with spring clamps on a car?

I have no clue what they are, care to elaborate? Are they those things that wrap around your springs, which compress them so that they may lower your cars height?

are you talking about these things???

i thought these were like ghetto, at home, cheap, spring compressors used to compress the spring so you can take the strut off.

ive used these to help lower a car by using them on the spring, compressing the spring, then put them on the new spring to compress it to mount it on the strut. but i have never heard of ppl actually using them while on the car to lower its stance while driving.

honestly, doesnt look very safe at all.

Those are coil spring compressors, as you mentioned, I think what he was refering to were the smaller clamps, but same basic idea. ....but yeah I don't think it's a good idea. Although I suppose if yiu wanted about a 3/4 inch drop, and you had an extra $11 in store credit at Autozone, it MAY be worth it......nah just kiddin'

I have never used them, but the it's my ubderstanding those things have a tendancy to become loose and fly out, not something that would be any fun at all while driving. Imagine one of your springs suddenly becoming un-assed and returning itself to full extention. It would be this........followed up by this........lots of it.....

Glad it's just a curiosity thing....

those are the pictures i produced when i did a google search for "spring clamps"

i have a set of those in the picture, i use them when working on cars at home (unlike the huge spring compressor that u normally find at the shop). the automotive store labells these as "macpherson strut spring compressors"

but yeah, looks safe to temp compress the spring to remove it off the strut, but to actually use them as a lowering tool, doesnt sound very safe. if i really had to cheap out, i would rather just torche a coil or 2 heat it up to compress, but this is more permanent, and really oldschool =P
