Question My car seems a little high..

Hey guys, my GS300 seems to sit higher than others which are stock.

Here are some pics:

I am thinking about lowering it on springs and keeping the stock shocks. The springs I was thinking about are King Spring Lows (You guys probably haven't heard of them they are an Aussie company). They will drop it 1.38 inches (35mm) and i will be getting 20's probably on a 35mm profile. I want the guards just above the rubber.

To summarise, does my car look higher than other stock ones?
and with what I mentioned above would the look I want be possible?

First of all, you posted at a time when most people in the United States are sleeping. It's 3:45 am here.

Your car does look a lot higher than USDM GS's. Maybe Australian GS's are higher because of their laws.

My cousin drives one (a 1999) its stock as well and sits lower than mine (2001) this is what drew me to my conclusion about its height. So think it is specific to mine. This car has had 3 owners including myself. Last was my dad and he did nothing to it. So I have to assume the old bloke who had it before me must of done something to it for some reason.

Its due for a service soon I will ask the mechanics if they notice anything different with the suspension.

I should get to the bottom of this before I lower it I think.

yeh, that is pretty high. I would just jack up the car, take a wheel off, then look at the spring and compare it to a stock one you can find a picture of online. Clean them off and look for any writing on it and google it.. that's what I would do anyway... good luck

EDIT:
If anyone has any pictures of a 2nd GS' stock suspension that would be nice.

Ok it looks the old dude who owned before my dad put some softer springs in there which have raised the car...no pictures but hey there is an answer.

I think i will pick up eibach pro Kit springs at the end of the week or the king springs i mentioned to replace them.

Based on what I'm seeing on your car, the Eibachs may only
lower it down to what we stateside would consider stock height.

Eibach makes a great spring, but the drop is very conservative,
so be warned.

I would use the Daizen springs, H&R or maybe the Tanabe...

It is VERY hard to get Daizen products in Aus and if you do it will cost an arm and a leg from what i have seen and i can't seem to find Tanabe at all in Aus.

H&R seem alright and readily available after a quick google will have to look more into them though and who stocks them near me.

Like i mentioned in the OP I can get King Spring lows that are a very good drop for $400AUD installed. I guess the trouble will matching shocks to it considering King don't make shocks i can't grab there own brand.

I will have a look around the places in Canberra to see what they can do for me and what they stock.

Put the Eibach on there, if they are still stock struts it should be pretty low it drops it about 1 inch all around. If you're going to update the struts I would go with the Bilsteins. If I was you I would do them both at the same time, Labor would be the same and you would be getting two items put on that have lifetime warranties. Last you'll have to think about the Suspension. If your going 20's the ride is going to be a lot harsher and the Eibach are progressive springs so they don't get real stiff until you start pushing on them. I had them before I got the Flex and the drop was just about perfect, any more and you would have started to have to worry about camber issues.

Thanks for the info Jesod.
At this point in time it is going to be a temporary lowering for like 6 months just to make it look better until I can source some coil overs or decide to go the plunge into airbags.

So just springs in the meantime eibach is looking the goods for the time being.

Cool, that's exactly what I did, just wanted to share my observations. Just the springs will be cool with the stock struts for a little while, although long term will wear out quicker.
