Have you ever checked your wheel bearings?
I had this whining noise all this time that I have owned my car. I always thought it was tire noise. Well, I was changing my brakes, picked the car up, and decided to check a few things. Grab the wheel at 12 and 6 position, started to see if it wobbles, and it did. Grabbed it at 3 and 9 pos., same thing. Checked all balljoints, everything was fine. My wheel bearing looked like it went through hell when my mech took it out. Put new ones in, and guess what, super quiet.
By the time I got back from Jersey, it started to make noise again. I think it could be the brake pads, but I will check in a week if it gets worse. I talked to my Lexus dude, and I might need a completely new hub. Spindle should be fine, or my wheel would wobble. Not a big deal, I was quoted $260 for new hub, bearing, and labor. Crap, another day my car will spend at Lexus. I really hope it's the new brakes breaking in and grinding that way.
Has anyone else experienced something like this?

now that ive read this thread, i think one or both of my front wheel bearings may be going out. its a little loud, or it might be my gnarly winter tires. i guess we'll see after i put my regulars back on. how much did you pay for just the wheel bearings? fronts? or rears?

kind of hard to describe accurately the symptom my car is having, but as i slow down, i can feel and hear roughness through the brake pedal. as if there was a serrated section [picture a circular saw blade that has teeth only on 1/8 of its circumference] on a tire. i dont feel it when im cruising but when i slow down it becomes more apparent. at this point none of my passengers notice it, but i do. im beginning to believe it is a bearing. how many miles do you have on your car slick?

I had the same symptoms. Still wasn't sure what was all that noise. Jacked up the front, grabbed the wheel at the 3-9 possition, and the wheel wobbled. Grabbed it at the 12-6 position, wobbled. Checked that nothing else moved when I feel the click/wobble. NYC will do that to your car. My bearings looked like they came out of a jucked, 80 year old car. They were seriously messed up. I changed them at 100k-miles.
