Question Removing middle brake light?

Does anyone know how to pop off the middle brake light? I want to clean the entire rear window without having to go around the brake light. I heard it's as simple as sliding it to one direction and it should pop off, but I wasn't able to get mine to budge. BTW, I have a 3GS but it should be the same on the 2IS. Any ideas?

Isn't there a camera in the rear brake light of the 3GS? Not sure if its only for the NAVI version but it would be tricky if you bust the wires for the camera. Heard this from my tinter, he said he couldn't take out the brake like to tint due to the camera.

No, the camera is actually on the trunk.

Nope, your tinter is mistaken. The camera is on the back of the trunk, near the license plate. My tinter easily removed the light when he tinted my car; though I'm unable to provide precise instructions.

On the 2IS, climb into the back seat, knees on seat facing the rear. Grab the 3rd brake light housing putting both thumbs on the front surface. Pushing w/ your thumbs, push the housing first back to the rear and then lift the front side up. You'll have disengaged the catches and then you can lift it out and set it to the side. It's really easy. I did it for my tinter when they were tinting my window (wanted to make sure they knew to not tint around the light).

Saved by a 12 year old post! Thanks!
I'll give it try tho I doubt its presence is an issue other than being able to clean under it.

FWIW: These do not have an answer if you go looking...

I think they changed things up later in life. 2013 light does not come up using this technique. It does pop the top up so you can disconnect the wires, then pull towards you and the top section comes off so you gain some access to the window for cleaning.

Are early 2IS led or incandescent? Late model is LED with 3 fat load resistors on the PCBA.
