Thinking about stocking up for my next oil change. Want to change it around 1000 miles or so, and every 6 months .10 quarts? Best brand for sunny California ?

 

Walmart or Costco, 5w30 synthetic.

I have a feeling motor oil is going to get more expensive and harder to get.

 

walmart usually has great deals on penzoil. I think theres a rebate going on too.

If you go to Walmart, be sure to get the 5 quart jugs instead of the individual 1 quart bottles. The price difference is crazy (Mobil 1):

10 quarts at $11.83 X 10 = $118.30
2 5 quart jugs at $33.67 = $67.34

Makes no sense!

 

I've been using Kirkland 5W-30 on mine and I really stocked up and bought 4 cases of it on the last sale ($30/10 qts). Lexus specs dino oil TGMO 5W30 for our cars so any synth is an upgrade.

 

It wouldn't hurt to stockpile a little extra oil in the coming days. Word on the street is dealers are already experiencing oil shortages and stores aren't too far behind.

 

Stockpiling oil at this point if you can avail of some kind of promotion or crazy price. Otherwise just buy oil when you need it.

0w30 or a 0w40 that holds an APPROVAL (not meets or exceeds) for MB229.5.

 

Owners manual just specifies meeting ILSAC GF-6A specification. Anything that meets spec is going to be fine. I've always bounced around between full synth Mobil1, Pennzoil, Castrol, and Valvoline depending on which one had rebates going at the time.
