That's actually not a bad idea maybe I will do this when I send in my first oil sample to Blackstone here in a couple thousand miles

 

First used oil analysis since purchase.

 

havent gone throught the entire thread but what does the analysis cost ?

 

They'll send the container for free but the analysis cost $28. I asked to get a TBN but they apparently didn't do that.

So, the long awaited 14k mile oil change happened and I sent in my sample. Results not exactly spectacular, but I was really surprised the TBN was so high. Way too much iron though. The comments are interesting. I did nothing to the engine during this time myself, but Lexus did the cooling fans and the fuel pressure sensor swap. They might have used some sealant somewhere for something, but I don't know what or why. Anyway, there is no cause for alarm here, just another in a long line of UOAs showing this engine does just fine with very extended OCIs.

 

My post ELF analysis was just sent in this week as well... I unfortunately had a coolant leak on the valley plate done at the same time.

But there is NO SEALANTS used during the the recall work alone.. I'm going with dirt, dust, or whatever getting into the intake port holes themselves..
Especially if they're asking you to check the engine air filter.

Depending what they find on my test, I may retest after 1,000 miles.


Hopefully no long term damages caused by the ELF / dealership work.

Posting my first UOA analysis.
Engine was at 70k miles at time of change.
Oil used: Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic.
Use interval - ~9,988 miles.
Had to add approx. 2 quarts during the use period.

Driving habits: 90% of the time in sport and manual mode with little to no redlining; shifts are usually at 3.5 - 4k rpm, and I hardly use 7th and 8th gear during my drives.
During the use interval I had the valley plate leak issue fixed, which was noted to blackstone, thus their comment.

 

Here's my third, 5w-30 Mobil 1 on a 7K interval. =)
All is well.

 

Just my most recent analysis. Managed to put more kms on this year but not much more. Looks good.

 

What was the issue that they were referring to?
What did they help you catch?

 

I believe they were referring to the valley leak. My last sample they found higher than average levels of sodium which led them to believe I had coolant leak somewhere.

On a side note, I've been following your oil leak thread.. Now you have me nervous. Mine is also my11

 

I'm sure your car is fine. Just keep an eye out when your car is lifted and make sure you periodically check your oil level.
For both instances it was pretty clear that I had a leak as oil was all over my underside tray and on the bottom where the engine meets the transmission.

Just bad luck I guess. So far I've had the following major issues:
Valley leak @ 67k miles
Rear main seal @ 76k miles
Upper oil pan @ 79k miles

The only positive to the upper oil pan leak is that they have to drop the engine to service the leak, so they're helping me swap my spark plugs at no extra cost.

 

Yeah sorry to hear. Two of your issues definitely have not been common but still worriesome.

 

Latest UOA. Mobil 0w40 has been in the car for about 3 years and for 8k miles. Iron has gone down since the last analysis. I didn't add any oil or change the oil filter during this interval. Goes to show that time isn't as big of a factor as some say. Also noted was that the recalls performed (ELF + radiator fan) and water pump replacement didn't affect the oil sample. I switched to Mobil 1 5w30 for the current oil change because Walmart wasn't carrying my normal 0w40 at the time. Hopefully, the 5w30 can also withstand the extended time period oil change.
