Default Removal and Cutting Dash

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to remove the upper panel on our 4gs?

Is it held by clips? Can I just put in a nylon removal tool and pop it off?

Have all the parts arriving this Wednesday.

Just want to get some tips from someone who has taken apart the dash on this particular car.

Just take out the instrument cluster, get measurements or get someone with hud to trace on wax paper the opening and the nearby speaker grills.

The cut doesn't have to be perfect because the shroud for the HUD will hide it. Just drill a hole and use a wire saw to make the cut.

Try to find the instructions on how to fit the "upper panel" to the dash. The procedure to take out the upper panel will be somewhat of a reverse procedure of how to fit it. At least from the fitting instructions, you will get a pretty good idea on how to take it out.

I may end up cutting into the dash I have right now but the HUD location is extremely close to the windshield. Without removing the upper panel to make the clean cuts, cutting it with a wire saw or dremel is going to be a nightmare. I would prefer to replace the upper panel dash with an OEM part that has the factory cut-out. I cannot find any instructions on the GS/LS or any TSB that indicates how to remove that piece. I just do not want to break anything if I can avoid it.

It doesn't look like [what you are calling] the 'upper panel' is a separate part of the dash. It appears the entire dash must be removed in order to install the HUD unit. I assume a Lexus technician would have to remove the entire dash in order to work on (or replace) the HUD unit. So, it's not impossible to do...it's just a bit scary that you don't scratch something, or break a fastener, or cause something to rattle.

Thank you for the help. However, I am not convinced that document applies to the 2015 model. The 16-17 have a different dash, the 15 looks to be more modular. See image below. #8 is the part I am trying to replace. It is a sub-assy part which typically means I should be able to remove it without removing the entire dash. Of course, I can be completely wrong so please do correct me!
