Default Screen Glitch

Hello Everyone,

New to the GS350 forum, but not new to Lexus. I had 3 ES ( 2002, 2007, 2010) and finally took the plunge on a new 2017 GS350awd back in July. Have about 3800 miles on it and love the car.
That being said had a weird issue this morning and wanted to know if anyone else had a similar issue at any time.

Cold here in the Northeast but was driving my car this morning which had warmed up well and had been running for 30 minutes approximately so car was definitely warmed up. Suddenly my entire display flickered color on and off once or twice and stayed blank. Radio stayed on as well as climate control continued to function.

I was in stop and go traffic so I shut the car off and restarted it. Everything came back on as normal and no issue for the rest of the drive.

Still have plenty of warranty left obviously, but does anyone have a clue?

Thanks for your input.

I’d just keep an eye on it and mention it to your service advisor at the next service.

FYI you can reboot your nav without shutting off your car. Just hold the radio power button down for a few seconds.

Thanks for the tip about the reboot.
I'll keep it in mind if it happens again.

I had my navigation freeze up on me after I had my maps supposedly updated (I say supposedly because the maps still show an outdated version). It's only happened once but it's nice to know how to reboot it. Thanks.

Did you have a NAV firmware update without a map update?

I told them I wanted my maps to be updated to the latest. They told me that they had updated them from 15.1 to 17.1. Here is the invoice.

That's weird. My 2015 map update on a 2013 GS 350 shows: Map Version: 21-15-17 [2015-06-1]

Why would your dealer's service invoice show no-charge for a map update? It only says Firmware Update...

A map update costs $169.00 plus an hour of labor, so the price would be ~$300.00. A firmware update is provided at no-charge whenever it's necessary. It looks like all you got was a firmware update. Did you ask for a map update...and agree to a quoted price?

(Note: You can get last year's map update in the Fall of each year just before the new map update becomes available for a reduced price of $99, but you'll still be charged an hour of labor.)

We had discussed updating the maps for free when I purchased the L/CPO. This was them attempting to hold their end of the bargain. It still has not been updated so they asked me to bring the car back to reflash.

Edit: I was very specific about a map update because they initially asked $330 to upgrade them. I negotiated it down to $0.

Nice! Great move. I should have tried negotiating that into my purchase. I just conceded to using my phone GPS.

I can much better accept $169 vs $300 for this update.

You're not missing out on much. There is no way I am going to pay $300+ every year to get updated maps.

Instead, I am going to buy the Beat-Sonic IF-04EP Smartphone Mirroring Kit (and Beat-Sonic CS5EP Front Camera Interface) so I can just have my phone mirrored on the navigation screen. That way I can use Waze or Google maps.

@BeatSonic, hook us up with a discount code!

Well, hopefully you were 'very specific' about your 'discussion' to get a map update at no-charge that you made sure it was stipulated in writing in the conditions of the purchase agreement...because your service invoice dated 12-9-2017 doesn't mention anything at all about a map update.

I think there is a good chance they tried to hoodoo you (cheating you by purposely playing a deceitful, unfair act) with a NAV firmware update - hoping you would think they had done a map update. If you don't have it in writing - I wish you good luck!

Well they were very deceitful about the remote starter. They told me the car had it and turns out it doesn't. They also promised me free bottles of the tricoat touch up paint which I still haven't received. All of this was spoken during the sale but never on the contract. However, I have emails, text messages, and call recordings where they admit to owing it to me. I had filed a complaint with Lexus and I met Jeff Bracken in person. Apparently the manager of that dealership quit and the sales person as well. I intend to pursue this further. This dealership was very deceiving and there is a list of complaints that are in the process of being addressed. I will get my maps updated.
