Please help me decide between a 2002 and 2007 SC430
Here is a 2007 (black) and 2002 (white)
Black:
170k kms (105k miles)
well maintained according to seller
serviced by same local mechanic over the years
seller didn’t keep service records
local seller
price is 18k CAD (14k USD) taxes included, all in
White:
120k kms (75k miles)
well maintained according to seller
needs amp for stereo
imported from Japan to Canada this June 2022
right hand drive
no service records, car is out of province
33 hour drive, so I might fly there to see the car
price is around 13k CAD (10k USD) taxes included, all in (including shipping).
Which one should I get? I like the black one, but it has more miles and it’s also about 5k more expensive. It looks well maintained, and i like the colour inside out. I also like the updates and new features on the newer gen. It’s a local seller so less hassle.
The white one is a great deal, but it’s such a difficult process to buy it, plus I’m having trouble finding insurance since it’s RHD. I also think it will be challenging to drive RHD the city (GTA). I think the interior colour combo is outdated, and the seats look a bit more worn out compared to the Black one even though it has lesser miles.
This will be my daily driver, but I don’t drive much because I work from home. Insurance is a bit high because I live in the city and I’m also 24 years old, but I love this car. If anyone can give their opinion/advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Personally if I was in your position of the two I would go for the newer one. Much easier to buy. It's left hand drive. The black paintwork does look nice. Seat colour more practical for a daily driver. Mileage is not a reason not to go for it. The body and interior look in better condition and is a better spec being newer.
The imported one If anything goes wrong it's going to be a problem and you don't know if it have ever been in a crash and rebuilt.
Which ever one you go for the timing belt needs to have been changed. So I would insist it is done at a main dealer first. They could also report on the car in general or failing that expect a good discount for this to be done.
Where I live in England their is always quite a few for sale normally with similar mileage or above so I would have thought you could find one with a good service history as if you ever want to sell the car it would be not so appealing to a new buyer for the same reason as yourself.
I own a 2004 Blue with the light interior but it is only used for pleasure. The only reason I bought it over a newer model was it was one owner with only 7500miles done since new and the last owner had a new timing belt, tyres, radiator and battery changed by a Lexus Dealer before selling it. It f was quite a find and there was a lot of competition to buy it at the time I bought it one year ago.
Only thing I really know about is Lefthand vs Righhand drive. I know nothing about registration where you are but here in Texas its no problem. BUT dont shy away from it if you are worried about driving it. I have had many RHD and its NOT a problem. One nice thing about RHD in the US is that if the passenger starts complaining about your driving you can put them over on the other side of the center stripe and tell them you wont bring them back till they stop complaining. I used to do that to my wife in the several RHD Bentleys we had.
I had a Mercedes 300 offered to me in 1960. It was an embassy car in the US. It was right hand drive. In excellent condition, less than 30K on the clock and the price was $600. I turned it down because it was right hand drive! How stupid can you get....youth I guess.
07 cuz upgrades, JDM is not worth the hassle as all info system is in Japanese and rhd. Also worse resell. I would only get JDM if there's no LHD equivalent. It's pointless to get JDM if there's LHD option, unless maybe it has some really nice JDM parts and dirt cheap.
Try making a left turn on a right hand drive car in a busy city intersection. YOU CANT SEE JACK S%@T if there are cars in the opposite left turn lane. you'll be just guessing and praying that you dont get T boned. RHD cars just become a nuisance after a while.
On JDM cars signal, wipers and lights are all flipped. So your turn signal is on the right and lights wipers on the left. I always end up turning on the wipers instead of turn signals
On the old Bentlys the emergency brake handle on the RHD cars was between the drivers seat and the door. prompting the warning that "to get into a RHD Bently one has to be a real gentleman to achieve it without getting the brake handle up his pants leg."
Get the black 2007, it has the same interior as mine and I feel that is the better looking interior.
The white one has the interior color that I do not like. But I think you will be happier with the newer version of the car.
