Before using Windows 10 natively, I tried using a VM-Ware image of Windows XP with TechStream 12.20.024 on it. It loaded fine but had no USB connectivity.
Possible you didn't open the USB port on your VM image. It's deactivated by default, IIRC.
I just tried the YouTube video method linked above and so far, everything has worked flawlessly.
I have not got the actual cable, yet. It's arriving tomorrow, but I wanted to be prepped. I don't suspect I'll run into any problems, however. Since the Techstream software seems to work (that was provided in the .ova file linked in the YT vid description), it should be as simple as plugging the cable in and following the Techstream prompts.
Admittedly, I have a background in computers, and have done this before with the German version, VCDS. That process was considerably more time consuming. I had to create the Virtual Box disk image on my own, from scratch. It was a huge PITA, even for me, and it was only because I don't own a PC, not because I purchased pirated software or anything. In fact, the cable I purchased was legit OEM.
In the YT vid, the linked file is in fact an already-existing .vdi file. You just click it (after you've installed VirtualBox) and it does the rest.
Highly, highly recommend.
Also, to anyone buying separate PC's for this, I also highly recommend you just get VirtualBox. It's really very simple to use.

Software running does not mean it will work. You will know when you got the cable and hook up to your vehicle. If it connects and goes thru some test then it’s OK.

True. According to the Amazon reviews, it should work with my exact vehicle. I can always get a replacement for free if I get a bad one. That's the beauty of Amazon Prime.
If not, I can try to snag one off eBay, but I'm pretty sure it'll work right out the gate.
Nitro, I’m sure you’ll be OK since you installed it on VM with 32-bit Window. I don’t know about your software version. Some of them crash on various tests. Hopefully it’s not your case.

Plugged it in and played around with it. So far, so good. For $95 I'm happy with the purchase.
If anything crashes it'll probably be vehicle specific. Should've mentioned this isn't for an SC430.
Just excited to have something working. For a while, I put this off because I had it in my mind that there was no existing solution out there, but the Amazon v 2.0.4 version does work (seemingly) for the models it says it does.
Anyway, the point of my original post was that people should try VirtualBox. You can get any version of Windows on there you'd like, and it's free. Additionally, you have to manually select what's plugged into the USB port (your Techstream cable...). VirtualBox does not assume that you'd like to connect to that device.
See below in this photo: XHorse needs to be manually selected. You'll see a checkmark next to it when you do. I suspect this would solve a lot of techstream+virtual machine complaints on this forum...

My wife came home last night and reported a flashing TPMS error on the dash so I fired up TechStream on the win10 64bit laptop using the virtual WinXP I loaded a while back.
it worked as expected (NOTE: my v1.4.1 cable would only connect using the USB 2.0, it wouldn’t work with the USB 3.0 port) and here are some screen shots.
oh yeah…just ordered four new TPMS sensors from Amazon for $136.
they were $158 on Rockauto
for anyone who watched the game last night…GEAUX TIGERS…WoW, what a game ;-)
