Default Lexus SC430 features

When I turn off the key in my 2003 SC430 the steering wheel retracts to the dash. Is there a setting where it will extend out when you turn the key off?

No. The steering wheel retracts to aid the exiting the vehicle. Reversing will defeat this purpose.

Just curious, why would you want the steering wheel to extend with the key off?

Not sure but you may be able to turn that feature off with techstream. It may not retract when you turn the key off

I'm tall and when the steering wheel retracts it traps my knees under the dash. If I could just extend it out and pull a fuse I would be happy

Norman

I am going to guess that Techstream will be your best bet.

I have the Techstream Software but my anti virus software went nuts when I installed the disc so I haven't run the software. I will pick up an old used laptop and install it on that. A tech at the Lexus store got it for me. It is about 3 versions back of the latest version but should at least show me if I can turn it on or off

If I remember correctly, you can turn off the steering wheel retraction in Techstream. As to the install of Techstream, you are supposed to turn off the virus detection before you install the software. Once installed I have never had it be a problem running it. It works best on a 32 bit machine but can be installed on a 64 bit with some registry changes. The problem is not the software but the drivers for the cable.

watch this video and use the links he provides…I did it and it worked perfectly on a 64bit machine…

Hmm! Mine retracts and tilts up to give you a widest space to exit the vehicle. I don’t see how it can trap your knees unless yours doesn’t tilt up.

I think if you check in your owner's manual you can EASILY (non Techstream) shut it off. I think it is a switch under the mirror controls (or something easy like that)

I shut mine off years ago, but don't remember how

Turns out I am wrong. It is a CBEST feature and has to be disabled by the dealer or techstream

I got my TechStream software to work. That fixed the problem. Now my 6'6" frame can get my knees out of the car when I turn the power off. Amazed at how many settings you can change

I am 6’2” and sort of fit our 08. Half of my issues is the cabriolet windbreaker behind the seats. But if I put the seat way back, without the cabriolet windbreaker, the steering wheel is too far away. How do you fit at 6’6”
