Everything I read said that the 2002 has TPMS, however using Techstream I cannot connect to the TPMS portion, just reports back can't connect / not found.
Is TPMS on the 2002 visible in TechStream? I was going to check the voltages prior to having them swapped to new rims, but I get nada in Techstream.
Has the light been OFF since your recent purchase? If so, perhaps the previous owner disconnected the TMPS module to get rid of the instrument cluster light that was on all the time. There is a thread or two on how to disconnect the TPMS module ( it's under the center console ). I would check it first before going crazy on TechStream.

It is also possible that the previous owner removed the TPS from the wheels when they changed the tires. They used to leak before it became practice to replace the o-rings every time the tires are replaced. Then as suggested above by Floptop, the module was disconnected.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! Sure enough hooked it back up and tire light is on.
So should I bother with replacement tire sensors or just do an aftermarket system?

some have gone the aftermarket route while others, me included, replaced the sensors, then programmed them using TechStream.
aftermarket is much cheaper.
I still have mine working, too. If you program them yourself with TechStream it's fairly simple and a lot less expensive than going to a Lexus dealer. Remember that typically only a Lexus dealer can program these sensors to the car, no one else has the capability.
