Default Door control module or lock actuator??

for the last two years I have not been able to lock my car with the inside switch on the drivers door. I replaced the switch without success. I have been able to lock the car with the remote so I just did that. This morning the car will not lock with the remote. The passenger side locks but the drivers side does not. Also, I get no sound or lights flashing when I press the remote lock, but the pass. side locks. All other functions on the door operate normally. I was curious if anyone had an opinion as to whether it was the door control module or the lock actuator itself. I am leaning to the control module since the problem started 2 years ago and the door locked normally with the remote. Any help would be appreciated.

I agree with your logic, my guess is the module also. Any chance you can get access to Techstream and see if the module is talking? Or possibly use techstream to test the module?

Highly likely that this is the door actuator motor failure. The motors cost about $6. Typically the worst performance is when it is hot outside and/or the door is in the sun. Of course, eventually the motor will just fail.

This is a follow up. It was actually both the door control module and the door lock actuator. I replaced the door control module and it solved my problems of not being able to control the passenger side door lock from the drivers side. But, the drivers door would still not lock and unlock. So, I replaced the door lock actuator and now everything is back to working as it should. Aisin door lock actuator from Rock Auto was the exact same part that was in the car from the factory. $125.00. The door control module was a used part from ebay and was $35.00. So not too bad from a cost standpoint.

great job, glad you were able to get everything operating again for $160.
a shop or dealer would have been sooooo much more.

Yea, the door control was about $380 new and the lock actuator was about $250 new from the dealer. Plus 2 hours labor. It only took me about 1.5 hours to do it myself.
By the way, BGW your video of you changing the passenger side door actuator was a big help. Thanks!

thanks a bunch, I know the video quality is not very good but I gave it a shot…it’s fun to save money.

I do wonder how much money I saved over the years…my diy jobs are becoming less frequent as the years go by :-)
