I've drilled down inside several related SC430 forum threads and have not found any reference to anyone having installed this product for Android auto play, and related. Anyone out there?
Here's link to product I'm looking for actual reference on:
Mostly I'm writing to insure you consider placement of the USB cable necessary for Android Auto or Apple Carplay. The mentioned device doesn't seem to support either wirelessly.
my point was that you will have to connect your phone to the new box via usb cable. I expect that cable is coming out the back of the unit. Just wanted you to plan routing where the usb cable that plugs into your phone is placed for ease of use. The SC's console isn't all that device friendly.
My phone will have wireless connection to a number of features. It already uses Bluetooth for calls with no issues. My SC is 2007 model that already has BT capabilities. I'm seeking Android car play functionality with ability to use waze & other apps on my phone via voice or touch screen functionality. System becomes a front-end to existing sound system, etc.
I think his point was if you plan to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto it looks like from the specs you can't do it wirelessly with this device. You'll need to route a USB cable somewhere you can plug in
Question:
How do you connect the iphone to apple carplay? i know it’s supposed to be the usb but i don’t see it in the front.?
Answer:
There is a USB cable that comes out of the back. You need to either run a lightening cable under the dash, or replace a cigarette lighter with a USB bulkhead connector. There are 2 USB cables at the back, one for carplay and one for power. By R. Swain on December 31, 2020
I have the manual for this product and the ONLY time a physical connection is required via the units built-in USB is the initialization of ApplePlay/Android CarPlay; after that is done to get all the apps/updates loaded, everything is wireless. I've confirmed this with Crutchfield who sells this unit & has provided all details including wiring harness, etc.
All I'm trying to do is find one existing SC install to confirm fit & functionality. Perhaps no one else has gone this route.
I'm going slow doing more research. Local Car Toys has current promo which includes free install plus free rear camera. Unit includes 3 year warranty. Will be having extended conversations with their techs. Interesting that all three, Boss, Crutchfield & Car Toys all claim unit will fit my 2007 SC430. I wonder .... ?
One of my related concerns in addition to fit is I like existing ability to close door over screen. Much cleaner/refined look.
I'll share what I learn & decide. Suncerely appreciate all comments & advice.
How much room is there in the cavity where the existing nav system lives?
...
That pic shows a full depth unit. It will fit in place of the OEM radio, but not in the Nav display area.
IIRC, when I pulled out my Nav unit, that allows around 2 inches depth, maybe less (answer is undoubtedly in one of the Android threads). Exact depth depends on how one handles retention of the mechanism controller board and daughterboard.

Thanks nonetheless for feedback.
Good investigation. Do you know if, once the initialization is complete, if that info goes into non-volatile memory? Hopefully it does. I gave a brief look at the manual and didn't see that mentioned one way or another.
Asking in case you blow a fuse or have to pull the battery for whatever reason. If you didn't provide access to the USB cables, pulling the radio to re-initialize would be a pain.
Since I started this thread I wanted to close things off with an update as of today.
While this product may be a good solution for others I've decided it's not something I need. Long story short my 2007 already had good Bluetooth phone capabilites, plus I've gotten use to using Waze on my Android phone, so not really interested in the older navigation ... so after all's said & done only functionality I needed was to add Aux to existing excellent ML sound system. Solution to that cost less than $14: Octeso Upgraded V5.0 Bluetooth FM Transmitter via Amazon - comparable to similar/same solution I've seen posted by others. Interestingly, while the quality of sound is likely not as pure as other "hard-wire-blue-tooth" solutions, the cost benefit justified the route I chose :-)
At least for now, that's where I'm at. Thanks to all who expressed interest in this thread. Much appreciated.
