Default Navigation player upgrade...help

I puchased a 2002 model two months ago. Really enjoy it. The navigation system worked fine, but the maps were to old for the area I live in. SO I purchased new DVD's. I followed the installation instructions. My research showed me that the software on the drive unit would be upgraded with the new DVD's. All looked to be going well on the upgrade. Maps were showing up on my screen. The last part of the upgrade had me driving around. I was excited that it was all working. Then I tried to put my home address in. Possibly it was not finished updating??? Anyway now I get the dredded "No Disk Found". Of course the old disk no longer works either... Can this be fixed?? I think my player is probably ok, just the programming to start it up is corrupt??
If it cannot be fixed can I purchase a Gen 4 player and just plug it in without any other changes??

Yes, gen 4 works fine. But before you purchase the new unit, retry it by eject the disk and reinsert. Also try to clean it with a disk cleaner. Or, may be your new disk is bad. Insert the old one to see if it’s read.

I don’t use the NAV, though I bought an 2015 updated disk. I use IPhone maps such as Waze, IMAP or GMap, for live traffics. The NAV is a back up just in case I am in a no signal zones.
