Default 2001 UL Navigation Disc Upgrade

I know this has been discussed many a time but I am confused. I have a 2001 LS430 which has Gen 2/3 navigation. I have the original 2000 DVD for the navigation maps and wanted to upgrade to a more recent map disc. Currently the override works fine and most people indicate that upgrading the DVD makes the override not work any longer. However, some seem to indicate that with Gen 2/3 the DVD upgrade will still allow the override to work. Can anyone confirm which is correct?

Not sure what the override does for you, but I just installed the latest disc and it works perfect. But I do not override the system.

UCF30 before M/C (2001-2003) from my understanding doesn't have a problem with the override not working when you upgrade the navi. It's the 04-06 that have that issue. I'm running the 7.1 version and my override works fine.

I have a 2001 LS. I upgraded to 8.1 last month.

i am assuming you are referring to the override accessible through the options screen and not a third party override.

the override that's accessible through the options screen is still there.

Sewell has a special for $250 right now using code NAV08. Is the install as simple as it looks - basically get access to your DVD drive and insert the disc and let it do the rest? I have a 2001 LS430 UL.

I have a '02 LS with the Gen 2/3 Nav and recently got the upgrade Vers 8 DVD from Sewell and installed it myself in less than 15 minutes. No sweat--don't worry about it.

And, as others have already said, I can also confirm that the override function still works. But....I still try to pull over somewhere if messing with the Nav screens. Others may disagree, but I freely admit that using them while driving is a huge diversion to me, and I am likely more dangerous doing that while moving. YMMV

Thanks for the feedback - I just ordered the Vers 8 from Sewell as well and am looking forward to the update. I have the original 2000 disc on my 2001 LS. Very glad to hear the override still works. I agree that it is a distraction but on occasion it can be very useful to not have to come to a crawl to get it to work.
