on my 2002..the little courtesy/map lights or whatever you call it in roof are not working. is there an LED upgrade by chance? Part numbers would be great. thanks
I don’t have a part number but there are plenty of options on Amazon and eBay...
there are plenty of threads on this subject.
here is a pic of my assortment...note the one with the remote. You can change color or brightness
I used the incandescent looking cool white 5x4 on the far right.
the lights usually come with the three different plug styles. Our car requires the bayonet style on the far upper left.
also, the plug must be reversed black to red
Depending on what year your car is, the OEM bulbs are BA9S incandescent. You should double check what is up there first. You can pry the lens off with a putty knife or a plastic body tool. (A screwdriver is likely to mar up the plastic housing.) That will allow you to see the bulbs. You can remove the bulbs to check to see if they are good or bad. (Do a continuity check with an OHM meter.) If they are good, then there are problems in the fixture itself which would most likely be either the switches having dirty contacts (there's thread on this) or the connections to the bulb holder have gone bad (they are made through rivets and there is a thread on this also).
Once you get to the bottom of the problem and rectify it, you can decide whether to replace the bulbs with more incandescent bulbs or LEDs. If you go LEDs, you'll need to get reverse polarity bulbs. The main advantage to the LEDS (other than the cleaner looking light) is that they draw about 1/10 of the power that incandescent bulbs do. So if you accidently leave them on or a door ajar, it won't run you battery down anywhere near as fast.
