I haven't done it, but some kind of back up camera is on my list. Once you get used to it, it is hard to go back (no pun intended). Looking forward to hearing what kind you got and what you think of it once you get it installed.

Many members have done this but did not like it and went to the traditional Navisk and Nav unit. Took me about 4 hours of labor and about $200 for the Navisk and a license plate camera. Do a search on back up cam you should find lots of infos on both methods.

I have read through the procedure, it needs tapping into the Reverse light or the Running light (constant power).

Simple tap:

1. Black is for ground.
2. Red is for either Reverse power or Constant power.

If tapped with constant power, camera is always on. If tapped on reverse light, it turns on and off with the reverse gear.

GmanSC,
I am prepping to put a Navick's Apple Car Play System, when I allocate the $750.00 to buy. I am in the final hours of a rear strut rebuild, but before I put the trunk liner back in , I want to mount and run the wiring for a Hardwired Back Up Camera. I am hoping you know the answer to my question.

What color wire coming out of the quick connect to the rear tail light assemble, is the 12V positive for the back Up lights? your answer could save some hunting & Pecking time.

Thanks

From what I have read (on the equipment I bought), all it takes is to tap into reverse + on the tail light and the other lead on the ground, the video shows on on the camera and you have the option to record. Once you get out of reverse, camera quits. Just too lazy and too cold right now. But it is on my list. Thanks in advance for tips. For now too cold to do anything...

how does one delete post #8 these days?
the delete button is gone...can you restore it?

BTW, the tail light is an awesome way to access the the 12v power but you are outside the car.
Is it better to access the power inside the the car where it is clean with no dirt or water?

You can tap the the back up +12v by BGW method, or you can tap it from the back up light bulb. Just remove the bulb, insert the stripped wire to the socket and replace the bulb. Five minutes.
