Default Having trouble getting TechStream to work on Windows 10? Install windows 10 32 Bit

A lot of people can't install techstream because it was designed for a 32 bit operating system (Windows XP)

Windows 10 comes as a 64 bit operating system by default.

There is a work around to install on a 64 bit system, but it is not very straightforward.

Any easier solution maybe to just install a 32 bit version of windows 10. (for free)

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...-for-free.html

In case you are wondering, a 32 bit operating system is designed for a single processor using 4 gigs or less of memory. A 64 bit operating system is design for a dual core processor (or even more processors) so each processor (brain chip) can run concurrently. This way multiple apps can be run at the same time using their own brain chip instead of waiting their turn for the single brain chip.

You can run 32bit software under windows 10 , there is google info on it , . I'm going to try it and will report back.

Says 10 easy steps ....... looks like a bit of mission to me

Could be easier to dual boot and have a win 7 or xp on a different partition

It is not TechStream that is the problem. It runs fine on a 64 bit machine. Windows 10 64 bit will run 32 bit programs all the time. It is the drivers for the cable that do not like the 64 bit OS.

FYI Microsoft stopped supporting the 32 bit version of W10 this past May. I can no longer find it on their web site. If you can find it I would download it and save it if it works for you and TechStream.

Well that stinks, the good news is I just ran the UPGRADE TOOL and it gave me the option to download the 32 bit version, so it is out there somewhere.

I agree, you should get it while you can. I don't think Microsoft is going to leave it online forever

Hey Bruce,
Just a heads up. Iolmaster is right, techstream isn't the problem. It is the lack of 64 bit drivers for the cable that is the problem. If u have a copy of XP that is probably these easiest install. If not, you can go the Windows 10 32 bit route. Otherwise you have to do registry edits to make techstream work.

For those who want to install TechStream on a 64-bit Window, here's the instruction to swap files and modify the registry:

Default Webroot didn't like that.

I just followed the entire writeup at the 86 site and my anti-virus kicked back. It said the MCVI32.dll was a "W32.malware.heur" and recommended removing it.

I heard of people installing techstream on old computers they bought off ebay. They only use it for techstream or whatever other car diagnostic software they use. Since it is only a "one use computer" that never connects to the internet, a malware driver isn't the end of the world for them. (Unless it infected your car, which is possible but unlikely)

I think that may be these best idea.

After all the whole procedure is wonky. You either get the software from China on a cd when you buy your cable. Or you download it off the internet. Then you have to run multiple programs that do "who knows what to your computer" and then you have to move files around. Any one of those steps could have been put there to fool your anti-malware software.

Sorry to hear that. This link is couple years old. I’ve tried but got frustrated and gave up.

This might be what Bluetheron is referring to. There are several Ebay ads labeled "Latest Toyota Techstream v15.00.029 05.2020". The ones I saw were software only (no cable). One of them says they will only install it remotely for you "due to all the bad reviews..."
