Stay away from version 13. Version 12 works fine. Don’t know about version 14.

I second this. I couldn't get version 13 to work on Windows 8 64-bit OS using version 1 cable at all. When I downgraded to version 8, everything worked. Now I'm torn about updating to version 12 for fear of losing what is working well now.

Dennis, I am not a Techstream expert, BGW knows more of the software than myself.
I ran into the problem when I first installed the version 8 to my XP. I just googled for the solution and learned how to fix it. Then I gave the system away and bought version 13 and 2.04 cable and again ran into the installation problem with Win 10. The vendor helped to modify the registry and swapped files to make it worked. Then I learned that version 13 would crash in certain test, thanks to BGW, I got the version 12 from him, everything is OK now.
We all learn from each other here at this fine forum. Thanks for the contributions of everyone.

I would leave it alone unless you willing to go through the modification of the registry. I think the newer version just adds more infos for the newer Toyota’s and Lexuses.

Thanks for the information concerning Version 13 vs Version 12. If I would get version 12, would I go with the 2.0.4 firmware cable or 1.4 firmware? Thank goodness when it comes time to install, my girlfriend is somewhat computer savvy. Also, always have you guys for extra knowledge. Thanks again.

Get the 2.0.4 firmware. I don’t think you can get the 1.4 firmware with version 12 software.

GmanSC and DJWLDW, Thanks for the heads-up on version 13. I researched the different versions of Techstream, and just the opposite for version 12..... you can only get firmware 1.4 with it. not 2.0.4.

Go to that link I posted and you can just download the software on to your XP laptop. Order your cable and you should be good to go.

Guys, this might be an overly hightech solution for most folks, but if you need to run a computer with a specific OS version for this, rather than get a 2nd computer, you can run what is called a "Virtual Machine."

Meaning, it's a piece of software (like VMWare or others) that will run a different operating system in another window.

This is especially useful if you have a Mac (you can use VMWare Fusion) and want to run an instance of Windows.

Now, I know I can probably figure this out by reading every techstream thread every written... but if anyone would be so kind as to link us to the latest version cable we can use, that would be very helpful.

There are a LOT of techstream options on ebay. Very confusing.

Is this viable?

It's the V13 software with a cable, says it'll work on Win10 x64 too:
Amazon Amazon

or this, claiming V14:
Amazon Amazon

Also, someone posted this in another techstream thread, I haven't had time to dig through it all, but you may all find it usefull:

It’s quite simple to have Techstream.
First, buy a used old laptop with XP window. Second, buy a cable and Techstream software, preferably ver 12 and 2.4 firmware. Stay away from version 13. I don’t know anything about version 14. Someone might have an opinion.
If you install on XP machine, the installation is straightforward.
The whole thing costs under hundred bucks.

LOL. I hate Techstream and I haven't even gotten it yet! So far my iCarSoft i905 has done everything I needed, But at around $100.00, it's not as cheap. But the headaches of all of the Version this and software that. Sheesh. Unless anyone wants to program a key, I still don't see a need for me yet other than I'm just curious about it.
