Techstream is a powerful Toyota software. Besides provides DTCs, it also can:
- Run health check your SC
- program keys, add or delete Master keys
- monitor the TPMS, registers sensors
- customize your SC preferences
- Turn on/off DRLs
And many others functions that I have not fully explored
For less than hundred bucks, about an hour of installation, I think it’s a valuable tool to have.

And I would absolutely agree. I'm just frustrated with the whole Techstream saga. I got a used laptop with Win 7. Replaced the battery that was toast and then I bought a specific version of S/W from a vendor, lets call them Baye and they were selling V10 and the cable. They sent V13 with the cable which I knew was problematic. And they can't get me V10 so they are asking me to take a ten % discount. I wanted the dang V10 S/W not a lower cost on a problematic package. One day I'll get it together.

Ok, so Techstream V12 (linked above) with a VCI 2.0.4 cable is the way to go. Does anyone have a link to one that has been used and known to work/known to be a reputable seller?

The cheapest I'm seeing on ebay when I search for "VCI 2.0.4" is $43 shipped from china. Do they get any cheaper than that?

Simple solution: go to the link that Dennis provided, download version 12 from BGW and you are good to go. That’s what I did, so as others, when version 13 crashed on health check and some other functions.

I paid $56.50 for my version 13 which was bad software.
So you save $13.50, consider it’s cheap.

Most folks are not repeat not going to be able to walk themselves through setting Techstream up on a Virtual machine. Yes it can be done but you better bring your A game and have all of it in one sock.

Get the cable with 2.04 firmware and down load the version 12 that I posted about that had been provided from BGW70.

Yeah, that suggestion is for more tech savvy folks or if you have a tech savvy friend you can bribe. But it was worth noting, especially for any mac users here.

And you could do it on a Windows 10 Pro machine but it is not easy to get the virtual XP program setup much less get Techstream to run on it.

Quick update.

I purchased this cable:
Amazon Amazon

I used the V12 software above, and I installed the x64 drivers for the cable (provided by the vendor) linked below. I didn't bother with their V14 software they provided since everyone said the V12 worked well.

I'm on a Mac so I used a Win10 x64 VM and everything worked on the first try.

I disabled DRL and changed the auto-relock to 60 seconds. Is there anything else cool or useful I missed?

I uploaded the x64 driver here: https://www111.zippyshare.com/v/f1QZ6DtQ/file.html

I've never used "zippyshare" before, if it sucks, let me know a better hosting site and I'll upload it. I didn't feel like creating an account for MEGA.

Glad you got it up and running. There are a whole host of things you can customize. You can change how long you hold down the trunk open button on the key fob.

oh yeah, I saw that. Pretty cool, also you an change if 1 door or both door unlocks on 1 click.

I was hoping I could kill that annoying buzzer that tells you your key is in the ignition, it rattles my brain when I'm working on something with the door open, but I couldn't find that option.

Does it allow you to change how the side view mirrors work? I would like to make the tilt feature selectable so that if the switch is set to right side, only the passenger side mirror tilts down so I can watch the curb during parallel parking.

There is the list of customized items you can do with Techstream, unfortunately none of those things.
I wish I can make the NAV door stays open and only close on demand.
