Default need advice/views

All I am left with is the valet key. I have no hope of recovering the master key with the fob. I would very much like to be able to lock my glove box and center console but , obviously, cannot do with the valet key.

Should I: 1) just suck it up and continue with valet ?

2)go to Lexus and try to acquire new key/fob?

3) get on eBay and get one there?

If i get a new key/fob , is it possible to have one that matches old codes and hence my valet will still be valid?
I know 2) will be $$$$ and 3) will involve a lot of BS and $$ outlay with no guarantee that I would be successful

Don’t be alarmed. You can easily program and create a new master key. First, buy couple blank key fobs from Amazon or Ebay and get them cut from the valet key. The valet key functions same as the regular key, the only difference between them is the valet key doesn’t have grooves at the edge.
Second, get them programmed using the valet key. You can do it yourself if you have Techstream or have it done by the Locksmith. For the remote control, you can also get them programmed.
There are threads related to programming keys using Techstream.
Do not lose your only valet key, it will be costly to replace the computer. Good luck.

Thanks G. The grooves on the side: are they generic? If not how could it be duplicated? I do have Techstream but am nervous to try as I had searched this before and remember reading that if you do it wrong , you could screw up the whole system. As to the blanks: won't I need it to have some transponder in it to get past the security? Is this part of the programming?

Thanks again.

The regular key has grooves, the valet doesn’t. Your blank key has transponder in it. It needs to be programmed to your SC using your valet key as a master. You may have to delete the previous master key(s) since the system only allows max of 4 keys. All of this can be done with Techstream.

Gman, don’t we have a TechStream thread on this subject or is it only for the TPMS sensors?
OP, I have programmed additional keys also and everything Gman says is correct!
its easy with TechStream and I don’t know how you erase the valet key because a programmed key must be in the turned on ignition to perform this procedure.

you must do this before something happens to the valet key.
in other words, you need to have a backup key.

Default Yikes!!!

I had to stop by the dealership for a couple of paint sticks and so i asked about getting a new key with buttons. Well, the master key , alone, will cost about +/- $300. Add to that that they have to get into computer to figure out the codes (because I only have valet) and you can add about 1 1/2 - 2hrs labour and I'm out the door for around $450. I suppose if I have Techstream(which I do) I SHOULD be able to do what the dealership would do but i have yet to find instructions for this endeavour. As G said , I found a master key on eBay for about $30 but to get it across the finish line might be a challenge.

I forgot to add, from what know, I can't see how i can add even another valet key since I don't have the master to set codes. Arggghhh!!

I heard you. The dealer always find the way to cut your throat. Two keys from the Ebay or Amazon cost 60 bucks. My local locksmith cut them for 20 bucks each. Half an hour with Techstream, you will have two master keys and a valet key. And you don’t need two valet keys. One is good
The only bad thing could happen is your valet key was designated as a sub-key. In this case you need to designate it as a master key. Keep in mind, you might need to delete the previous master keys in the system.
Read post #19 and 20 in the link provided in the previous post for mor infos.

I was in the same situation when I bought my 2005. I only had a valet key. I bought a key from these guys https://www.ebay.com/itm/Blade-Cut-3...ss!85012!US!-1

It was very affordable and they cut it using a picture of my valet key.

However, since i only had a valet key, I could not program the new keys to my SC430. Techstream said I needed a Supervisory code to do it. You used to be able to buy a code on ebay, but I don't know if you still can.

Since I only had a valet key and no supervisory code, I had to take it to a locksmith and have them program it to my car for $85.

They key company I sent you says they have a programming box they can sell you, however, I think you need a master key for it to work.

So I think that means you need to go to an automotive locksmith
