The SC430 seems to have all I want except one vital thing -- exciting acceleration from stop. Each that I have driven seem to have a slow start and dip before starting its real acceleration. Is how they all are? The graph I drew should hopefully show what I'm talking about. If there is a way to fix that then I'd definitely buy one.
Thanks! I don't own the car yet, just been test driving them. Sounds like I can do this while I'm on a test drive without them getting all suspicious on me.
I am not experiencing any lagging acceleration with my SC. She takes off as smoothly as silk.
Odd, it happened with all three I've driven so far.
Have you ever driven a BMW 645/650, Mercedes SL500/550 or Jaguar XK by any chance? Those are the cars I'm also considering and they all accelerate much more quickly from a stop than the SC does. You punch it and they just go. But the SCs have all done that lag I showed in the drawing before hitting it's stride and sadly takes the OOMPH out of the takeoff. I'm hoping the ECU reset will do it.
Yes, there is some lag (somewhat fuel dependent). A lot of the lag is typically caused by the ECU "learning how you drive" and adjusting. Unfortunately, it typically makes it worse when it adjusts. There is a key sequence for resetting the ECU that will get rid of the learned response. Do a search and you'll find it. (Otherwise, I can try to track it down tonight or tomorrow night when I get home.) This will do the same as disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it without all the lost memory problems associated with disconnecting the battery and it only takes 2 or 3 minutes.

here are the steps Bob and Harold were referring too...I have a printed copy in my glovebox.
It is quick and easy to reset the ECU and there are no cons to it.
1. Get in your car and insert key. (It doesn't matter if you close the door or not.)
2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position.
3. Press the gas pedal to the floor.
4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off" position
(don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
5. Wait 2 minutes.
6. Remove key.
I did this reboot today while on a test drive and it did actually make a difference! So thank you for that. The car still didn't make my butt checks clench like a couple others have, but if i can get one of these for $10,000 less and have less to worry about in repairs then it may be worth it

If you think you are going to get an SC430 make your butt cheeks clench you are looking at the wrong car. It was never meant for butt clenching but butt coddling.
