Default Damaged Rim and Tire,

I was going to work around 4 am in the morning and hit a big chunk of an object, it damaged the rims and my tire pretty good. Picture below:

Spoiler

The people from the tire shop said I was lucky I was safe after I hit the object, the TPMS light came on after a couple seconds, I was driving on run-flats and was able to drive about ten more miles and got it checked out after work.

Because I couldn't drive with those rim and tire for obvious reasons, I had to get new rims and tires. Luckily they had some available in stock and this is what the car looks like now:

Glad that you and your car made it through that ordeal safely. Nice new wheels also. (That must have been some nasty object.)

Glad you were not injured or car more damaged. Nice looking new wheels. You may want to consider making an insurance claim for cost of replacement wheels - this is a subjective judgement call as it may raise rates or not be worth it after deductible - discuss with your agent to verify.

Back in 1989 while driving my new 1989 Vett roadster into the Pentagon at 0500 hours I was following a semi flatbed up I-95 North and a 4 foot long 4x4 feel off the rig and stayed in our lane and I caught it with both left tires. Back then Vetts had 16 inch tires and I caught the edge of both driver side rims and rolled them up. Did not loose air but sure did jack up both rims. I turned it into my insurance guy and he asked me did I see it fall off because if I did I was covered except for my deductible which was $100 however if I did not see it fall off than I would have to pay the first $1000. Of course I said why yes I saw it fall off and could not react fast enough to avoid hitting it. The insurance paid something like $1100 for 2 new rims mounting and balancing the tires plus alignment. I got to keep the 2 rims of which I made end tables out of for several years and then sold them for $100.

Hard to believe you were able to drive on that afterwards - you must have someone watching over you to come out unscathed...that rim is beyond belief.

Great looking new wheels, btw - those are one style I'd really like to upgrade to. Might I ask the mfr/model, wheel size & offset? Thanks!

Funny, the same thing just happened to my wife new RAV4. Only thing she just damaged the tire, not the rim (scratches a bit). Cost us 200 bucks for the new tire.
Glad you are ok.

NICE RIMS and I am glad you are ok.

If you REALLY want to, you can find someone that can fix the rim. I hit a pothole last month and damaged my rim. I called a couple of family tire shops and they both pointed me to the same place. Sure enough, for $60 bucks he fixed my rim and it both balanced and drives perfectly

You may also want to file a claim with the city if it is a pothole. I downloaded the form, but never got around to doing it.

Thank you guys, yes I'm very lucky I'm safe. But yes it's also a good excuse to get some new rims haha. The tires probably only had a couple more months based on the thread depth. The previous owner actually only had run flats on the front and normal tires on the back which was an interesting setup. And I'll keep that in my mind, I'll check my deductibles and talk to insurance if I can make a claim as long as it doesn't increase my rates.

Thank you. I believe the wheels are DRIVEGUARD - SIZE: 245/40RF18, I added a 20 mm wheel spacer on all sides. And for the rims, they are 18" KM694 WISHBONE

When I was at the tire shop they could only fit three rims total (without the tire) two on the back seat, and one on the passenger seat, I think they threw away the damage one. I'll remember that on the next object I hit lol.

I was talking about filing a claim with the city directly. That way no insurance is involved.

I think you can download a claim form, fill out the info about where the pothole was located, when you hit it, the picture of the damage and a receipt for what it cost to replace one rim and one tire. I think that is about all they need.

Thanks!! And I see
Amazon Amazon
has them, plus I can get 5% off with my Prime card...

The end of 2018 might just get a little pricier

EDIT: did those require hubcentric rings, or were they 60.1 mm?
