Tech Stream Version

I saw your post regarding the TPMS and you were using Tech Stream. My sister gave me an old dell Inspiron Mini 10 which still has Win XP on it. What is the correct/newest version of tech stream and with which cable do I need to order off of e-bay. Looks like you were using a Version 12 something? Is that the most current? I know that you can get a disk and cable off e-bay for 15-20 bucks. Will that version work on both my for now 2010 LS 460L and Steve's 2005 SC 430. I already have the Carista app on my LS iPad but as I understand it the Carista App will not work on the SC and they have no planes to make it work with the SC's. It works great on the LS. If possible could you post a link in your response with the correct software version and cable combo please.
Thanks
Dennis

For Win10 you need later version. I gave the XP version to my brother and bought a Yueku Mini VCI J2534, latest software version 13.00.22, firmware 2.0.4, for Win 10 and it costs $56.99.
The installation is straight forward, but it would not connect to the car (unable to connect to VIM). No instruction how to modify the registry included. Searched the net, I found the instruction but the process is complicated.
I then contacted the seller Yueku and they helped me to install via TeamViewer software. Now everything is OK.
So Techstream does work with Win 10.
Bottom line, if you have Window XP, the older version work fine, if you have Win10, you need newer version.

i think many of the software updates might be to correct the usual bugs, but also to add new models.
personally, I would locate an eBay or amazon vendor who has excellent reviews and inexpensive.
i agree with the comment about it being $15-$20 now. I think I paid $25 many moons ago.
GmanSC certainly provided some excellent information.
if your good with computers you should be able to make it work on a newer machine.
since you have the older XP machine, I would just use that one, mainly because of the possibility the Software you purchase may have a bug.
my XP machine is a “throwaway” Machine and no personal data is on it...just car diagnostic software for the Toyota and my Honda.

Thanks. That is what I use the DW's old Gen 2 iPad for. It has the stuff it will not let me delete but I just use it for the Carista App when working on the LS.
I am always confused on this subject. When you order the cable weather it is version 1.4.? or version 2.0.4 that is just the cable and is the difference the 1.4 version is 22 pin and the 2.0.4 version is only a 16 Pin cable? Now what is on the little disk that comes with the cable is nothing more than the drivers for the cable to interface with the computer correct? Ordering either one of these cable will NOT get you the actual tech stream software which I am guess you must buy from someone else? Now it looks like you are running version 12.20 something and GmanSC shows the latest version as 13.00.22 is this correct? I see the cables and the driver disk on e-bay for 15-20 bucks but was not sure about the software and what version is the most current and what it costs? Do you get updates for your version 12 bringing it up to V 13.00.22 levels or is the version that you initial buy is the one you have?
As you can see I need lots of help in the Tech Stream world. The LS which uses the Carista App is a peace of cake. Plug in the ELM 327 interface to the OBDII port in the LS and it will talk with the iPad then you just open the Carista App and you are off to the races.

the 1.4.1 and 2.0.4 is the cable firmware version and either should function just fine on your cars...the cables are physically the same and will connect to the modern OBDII connector you have in the LS460 and SC430.
i just had a weird experience with my firmware on each cable. V1.4.1 only worked on my 2002 and 2007 and v2.0.4 would only work on my relatives 2010 Camry,
the disk has the drivers and the TechStream software, you need nothing else.
as GmanSC said, if you have an XP machine, you are good to go and the install should be easy.
When you purchase the cable everything is included.

Dennis, there is a firmware and there is a software. Firmware is a program that burned to the chip in your cable. Software is the program that on your disk, this is the program that you install on your computer. On your disk is also included two softwares, one called “driver”, you also must install this driver after you installed the softwares, the other is a program that generate the Product code to unlock your software ( so you don’t have to pay for subscription).
the software on the disk is compressed or RAv. You must Unrav the software before you install it.
Like I said, if you install with an old XP window, the older and cheap cable would do. If you plan to install it on Window 8 and later, you need newer software version. The installation is complicated because it involved to modify your registry ( the master brain of your computer). You will need professional help to do it. Good luck.

I just ordered via e-bay the 2.0.4 version cable and software. I will install it on an old XP dell inspiron mini 10 laptop my sister gave me at no cost. I am out the door for $18.79 delivered. If it does not work I am out 1 nice cigar and I can live with that. The thing is I am ordering it just in case I buy a SC that does not allow me to use my Carista app plus my son has a 2005 SC 430.

I have an external usb dvd drive so I am hoping I will not have any problems installing it on the mini 10 HD. I am not sure about unzipping it once I have it on the mini 10 160GB HD? I am not sure if I have any unzipping software on the mini XP to unzip it?

Thanks for the tip. I just ordered a new battery for the mini 10 as it was not holding a charge. I might fire it up and try downloading the winzip program. That is what I have on my and Linny's loptops although I bought those.
