Default Transporting SC430, trailer verses dolly

Purchasing a SC430 that has a timing belt that is way overdue for replacement. Car is 500+ miles from home (remote location) so I plan to simply tow it home to my local Lexus dealer or mechanic.

As anticipated, U-Haul says trailer but I’m wondering if anyone here has used a tow dolly. Disconnect driveshaft or perhaps tow backwards?

Thoughts, experience?
TIA

PS Tow vehicle is 3/4t Silverado

i would rent the full tow trailer...all four wheels off the ground. You have the perfect truck for the job!

do it correctly and not cheaply...

BTW, congrats in advance on the purchase and Welcome to the SC430 club!

Thanks for the timely reply. Yes, my usual mantra, “correctly not cheaply”. Was just curious 🤔

How many miles on the car?

Any symptoms of the timing belt starting to go?

What year car?

Thanks for asking. The car is a 2003 with less than 60K miles with no Lexus dealer network records (or sticker) of the belt ever being replaced. Considering the possible catastrophic results if the belt should fail, towing (IMHO) is the only safe option.

Guessing if there are any symptoms (not sure what they would be) then you’re living outside the envelope?

My 03 had timing belt replaced at 108k miles. My mechanic said it was still new. He only replaced it because the water pump was leaking. The car was used for weekends only and always parked in the garage by the previous owner.

Is the serpentine belt making noise. Does it have any crack?

Thanks for the interest. Serpentine belt is quiet, no cracks.

The timing belt is 5+ years overdue (Lexus recommends belt/pump be replaced at 9/90). How old was your belt when replaced?

It was the original timing belt. The previous owner told me it had never been replaced.

My 05 4.7L V8 Tundra with 84k miles was never garaged. The serpentine belt had cracks and made noise. My same mechanic told me I needed to replace the timing belt just by looking at the truck.
