Thanks everyone for your input!

Now my question is, should I trade this in while the top is in working condition and get a newer model with rear cam. Hoping newer models may have better hinges. Any thoughts?
If your car is an 05 or earlier, I say you should trade it in for the 06+ model. Find the SC which has less mileages. Adding backup cam is just few hundred dollars.

No model years came standard with a back up camera including the last year, 2010 which are difficult to find. Adding a Back up camera is a modification done by many of our members using a variety of methods.

Regarding trading in the car as is, that’s your decision.
Thanks, Bob; for your very quick responses. Finally found the invoice from the dealer. This is what the technician put in - "Found release cable for top release popped off hinge. Removed trunk interior and reinstalled cable end and bent hinge mount back in place. If it pops out again guest will need new LR trunk hinge".

Is that helpful? I did ask the question to the technician if there is anything I could to prevent the re occurrence and he said no.

Yep, sounds Iike a bent hinge will need replacing in the future. It’s a complicated repair. When this happened to my 02 it was covered by an extended warranty.

Usually if they say it is a hinge problem, they says they need to replace both hinges and it is $3500-ish. I think their theory is that if one motor wears out, that means all of the motors are close to their end of life.

I think that is the way to go, but you don't have to go to the dealer. If you call an independent Lexus Repair shop, they may be willing to tackle the job for you.

You can buy a matching pair of 06 hinges from these guys for about $430. It took me about 6 hours to replace mine.

It is a little time consuming, but not hard

Curious, why do you think that your hinge(s) wore out? Was it from frequent use of your car as a convertible? Is there anything folks have found that could be done as preventive
maintenance involving the entire mechanism of the hardtop to convertible mechanisms that might help prolong or even prevent part failure? Please share what you may have done,
anyone...

Well finally happened to me. Put the top down and forgot...it rained. Interior got wet, not so much a big deal. We dried up as much as we could.

Then I closed the roof, and it closed. However when I tried to put the top down, it does not move and I have a flashing RED light...

So I figured, something is still wet and have not touched it for a day.

I used my air blower and blew air into the openings...

Did it screw up anything ? Will it dry up and I can operate as normal?

That's sucks. Hopefully drying out will do the trick.

I’d disconnect the battery for a hard reset on all the electronics before another attempt.
might even pull the air conditioning control assembly/display from the dash to inspect for moisture.

Thanks VVTiBob for the tip.

I will do a hard re-set by disconnecting the battery. I will not attempt to open up the roof as I am going on vacation for 2 weeks. This will allow for the SC to dry up completely. I keep the SC on a battery maintainer.

Could it just need a trunk cover reseat? the one with the microswitch...the cover may not be pushing it correctly. That would give you the flashing red light.

Are these the 2 Switches LH and RH? But this was not rained on...

I circled the location of the microswitch. If the cover is not seated correctly, the switch won’t be pressed and the light will flash when you try to lower the roof.

If your red light is flashing check two places. The micro switch in the trunk and the valet switch in the glove box.
