I recently repaired the foam on my ML 6x9 speakers as they were both rattling in the doors. One of the repairs worked fine, the other not so much. It still spends much of it's time buzzing so I think it has other problems.
Can anybody knowledgeable recommend whether or not these would be suitable replacements to replace the 6x9s.
I ordered one. Trying to forgo making the adapter to the 6.5" as you did and have a direct bolt in save for the wire soldering to add the factory connector.
I did stop in at a stereo who stated I could use a 4 ohm speaker and likely turn the bass down a notch or two to get equivalent.
I opted to order what I hope to be a direct replacement and will let the gang here know what I find out. On a positive note I took the rest of my interior trim out and verified all other speakers are working as new.
FWIW I've repaired the foam in my speakers several times over the last few years. The last time I actually used some thin cloth with the glue to repair the foam tear and that I must say seems to have worked the best.
I would not use a 4 ohm speaker to replace the full-mid range door speakers given the frailty of the OEM ML amp. There are lots of 8ohm speakers available in various sizes. I used good quality 6.5 inch 8 ohm speakers and a 6x9 to 6.5 conversion template that worked perfectly. Be aware that even if you get same size 6x9 speakers unless they are exact match OEM ML speakers ( not recommended as they are cheap junk) the mounting points on basket structure and /or mounting points on the replacement speakers may be significantly different. Make sure the depth on the door replacements is 3.0 inches or less to clear the windows.
