do you think the whirring noise could be the package tray cable?

the guy at the auto parts store can't pull body codes. A generic reader won't work for that.

Cole is correct, you will need to go to a Lexus or Toyota dealer or purchase techstream and do it yourself. ~$25 on eBay.

make sure you spend some time reading those threads I posted...we will continue to try and help you!

That is exactly the same thing that happened to me. It is so weird. When the computer was plugged in, the top started working.

I started a separate post to see what people say: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...1272-code.html

Remember I said that the hardest part I had replacing my motor was with the grounding wire? Well according to this article, that maybe our problem http://www.justanswer.com/lexus/6t06...o-bad-top.html

Hey dar i didn't have any problem reinstalling the motors ground wire but my car was involved in a rear end collision
after I contacted the body shop about the top issue they informed me that they only replaced the rear bumper and did not work on the top but every time I try to put the top down I hear this whirring sound coming from my passenger side rear quarter
panel (see video post) is kinda sounds like when you antenna mast breaks but the motor still works

how about removing all of the covers in the trunk to pinpoint the source of the noise?
and honestly, unless you are good friends with the mechanic, do you thin he would read these forums?

I hope you have an old Win XP machine unless you are good with computers...Techstream is easy to load on XP but can be difficult on win7 plus.

As far a source the mechanic goes he always reads posts in club Lexus
I might remove the entire trunk lid and covers in the trunk to try and see what's happening
can i do that and not mess up anything?

I would not remove the trunk lid . Unless you mean the trunk headliner trim. I don't see how that would be necessary .
Just removing all the trunk panels wont really get to see more. The gears and hinges that are moving as well as the package tray are visible with out taking anything out. The trunk does have to pivot and tilt both directions to open top and then close top
