Thumbs up

Ok ....
im about to pull the trigger on this passenger side hinge with motors but I have some questions.
# 1. How should I open the trunk? Should the lid open from the rear?
# 2. How do I move the new hinge into position, to mount it to the car and to the trunk lid without damaging it?
any advice would be greatly appreciated
and thanks for everyone's input

Unfortunately Lexzilla, very few folks have any experience with top repair, not even the mechanics that work on them. (I found this out when mine had problems.)

I haven't done it, but my plan of attack would go something like this. Open trunk normally, put a thick blanket down at the back edge, have two friends one on each side to hold the lid, unbolt the hinges on both sides leaving only on bolt in each hinge ( as the lid is very heavy you don't want to hold it all that long un supported) , I would then disconnect the trunk struts now they have to support the whole weight of it, so have your socket ready to hurry up with the last two hinge bolts, change hinge, reverse for putting the lid back on. Close lid down slowly to see if you need to adjust it before fully closing it. You don't want to scrape it because it isn't lined up .

Like I said, I haven't done it but this is how I would do it.

In post #2 & 74 of this discussion, I gave you a link to how I changed my hinge. I forgot to mention you have to remove the trunk struts first, but the rest is pretty straight forward

I guess my concerns are other than the wiring harness is there any cables that I need to unhook and re hookup when I install
the used hinge? ( sorry for all of these questions) I'm just trying to get all the information I can on this

It has been awhile since I did it. I think you will probably have to just do it and disconnect things as they arise.

My recomendation is to take a closeup picture of each connection (or a video) That way you have something to reference if there is a problem. If your picture is blurry or something, you can always look at the other hinge and see how that is hooked up.

Lex, did you decide those links Darryl and I gave you were not helpful?

you are not the first person to deal with roof problems.
